Laughter

Raising Duncan Classics

Unlike Momma in the cartoon I didn’t marry my husband because he makes me laugh, but I wouldn’t have married him if he hadn’t had a sense of humor. I wanted someone who would wear well, which means not taking himself and life too seriously. That doesn’t mean not being responsible, it just means not being grim about it. I need to laugh from time to time and can’t imaging living with someone who couldn’t share those laughs.

How important is laughter to you? Do you have people to laugh with?

For me laughter is better than any medicine and as the saying goes: A day without laughter is a day wasted!

    Rummuser,
Your answer came as a complete surprise, of course. 😉

    Grannymar,
    I agree!

I’m not sure. I couldn’t imagine life without it. It gives me energy and lightness.

PG Wodehouse’s Bertie and Jeeves books are a gift from God – wonderful drawingroom farce: laugh out loud funny.

    Evan,
That’s a good point. Books and movies are a great way of keeping our sense of humor exercised. So is blogging, if we turn nuisance situations into funny stories we share.

I don’t have a signficant other to laugh with…and this blog post has made me realise that maybe I’m becoming to serious or even cynical.
Just lately some of the people in my life have gotten to me in a big non-laughable way 🙁
May be I need to go to the movies…see a funny one.

      Cathy,
It really helps to tune up our sense of humor in any way we can. Living without humor for me is like running a car with no oil. It’s too hard on the mechanism. I seem to need more “oil” than most people, I think.

“Do you have people to laugh with?”

No, Tom says funny things that make me laugh, but he’s not a laughing type guy. I still act silly & sometimes can make him smile. That’s good enough for me ’cause he’s perfect in every other way.

  8. gaelikaa says:

A sense of humour is necessary. Taking things too seriously is fatal.

    gaelikaa,
Studies do show that people who laugh a lot tend to be healthier, not to mention enjoying life more. 🙂
