Uncertain Future?

B.C.

This cartoon reminds me of an acquaintance years ago. His doctor looked up from the test results and said, “Tell me, Mr. Balestrini, do you believe in God?” Oh, oh.

It also reminds me of some appeals from charities I’ve recently received. They weren’t asking for money now. They simply want me to remember them in my will. Oh, oh.

They remind me of buzzards circling overhead.

Have you ever received an appeal like that? If you did, how would you feel? 🙂

My husband’s mother got a notice from her college that they’d have to fold if they didn’t get lots of money from Wills. (My son said they all say that.) She complied. Grrrrrrrr

I just looked it up (Wilson College). It’s still on the map. Yea! She believed in education more than anything. She was the only girl in a family of boys. Her mother said that if she couldn’t afford to send them to college, she’d send the girl, because the woman is the one who raises the children.

Boy, did she raise a good one!

I haven’t got one yet. Probably because I’m not on the Australian pension yet.

I just ignore such things. If I end up having anything major to leave I’ll think about setting up a foundation. It would be called the Kill The Market Foundation (because a market in necessities kills people).

One of the standard coffee shop conversations is for an elderly group to take turns lamenting about their children joyfully making plans on what they are going to do with the inheritance when their parents die.

    bikehikebabe,
I answered you right after you posted your comment this morning. Don’t know what happened to my reply. Anyway, Tom’s grandmother was a wise woman. 🙂

    Evan,
We give to some favorite charities every year, but my daughter and son-in-law come first in our wills. They’re impressive people.

    Looney,
Why lament and encourage that feeling of entitlement? If I were them I would change my will.

Buzzards circling overhead was the reaction that I too had when I first saw an appeal in the highly respected National Geographic for a mention in one’s will. I think that this is crass and should be discouraged.
