Party Time

Last week I said I didn’t go to the Stanford-in-Germany reunion because I don’t like parties. That’s not quite true. It’s just that my idea of a good party is different from most people’s. Here’s a picture of one of my all-time favorites:

And last night my husband and I had a good time playing Sudoku. (To step through an example puzzle click here.)

Yes, we Browmans do get wild sometimes. 🙂 What’s your idea of a good party?

Thanks to Evan, Looney, Cathy, bikehikebabe, Rummuser and Ursula for commenting on last week’s post.

Just got back from an 80th B-day party. Lots of people I knew, lots of food. We all wore hats she’s collected. Big Band played. “No gifts please.”

We ate a HUGE lunch late. I forgot about the party. Was chips & salsa on tables which I ate a lot, because I thought that was IT, besides a cake. When that was gone I went to another table to talk & ate theirs.

Then there was a room full of fancy food.

We don’t have a lota fun here so I wanted to report.

Well if it’s a family sort of part – i.e. get together with siblings and their families – NO, CAN DO!

not sure how I am going to do come first week of December – a family wedding with apparently a picnic reception – I’ve said I will come but I might be conveniently unable to on the day…

for me a party is something like what my craft guild does – a fancy sort of lunch (bring a plate) with festive decor. Lots of chatter and stuff like that – nothing formal. Occasionally someone does something funny, a skit but nothing that is too long – nice.

i also like doing one-2-one sort of meet-ups. Where we go to a nice cafe, eating nice food and chatter…

(the laptop party looks like a great idea…)

    bikehikebabe,
That sounds like quite a party! Glad you had a good time.

    Cathy,
On the whole I prefer one-on-one conversations, but a few months ago I did go to a get-together of a group I worked with about 20 years ago. It warmed my heart to see everyone again. It was in town so there was no hassle getting there, and it was a small, special group.

My partying days are more or less over. I simply do not have the patience nor the desire for them. The ones that I used to enjoy were where there was stimulating conversation, good food and the outcome was stronger bonding.

    rummuser,
The idea of this post was to encourage us to expand our definition of “party”. For instance, do you even find stimulating conversation and bonding through blogging? Or get great joy and bonding from interacting with the children in your extended family?

  6. rummuser says:

    Oh yes I do indeed.

  7. Looney says:

Looks like they are all set for a WoW tournament.

  8. bikehikebabe says:

Yes I do indeed too. (like rummuser)

I liked parties because I got to dress up. Part of why I like Scottish dance on Monday nights, is that I still get to dress up. That is pants are not encouraged. How would it look if the men wore skirts (kilts) & the women pants?

    Looney,
It was even less social than that. Kaitlin was doing something for work, Torben might have been checking his e-mail or maybe doing a puzzle, and Andy was seeing what our first Mac was like. I use it as a desktop (have it hooked up to an old 21-inch monitor) and love it. It convinced up to switch to Macs.

    bikehikebabe,
I can see why you love to have a chance to dress up. And I’m just the opposite… I gave away all my dresses and skirts. If I can’t wear slacks I can’t go.

I like all kinds of parties but I have to be in the mood. As I get older, I’m quite content to stay home, listen to my music and read my books and write to my heart’s content. When I get time to myself, that is! For me, the internet, i.e. connecting with friends, can be a party in itself.

    gaelikaa,
In your latest post you write about eating in to dinner. That sounds like a simple but fun family party too.
