Happy New Year!

I took the background picture last Thursday afternoon after the snow storm. And early this morning, as the year switched to 2011, it was about zero degrees Fahrenheit outside. It only warmed up to about 20 during the day so it was a great time to stay inside and play with my computer.

Next Spring we will probably drive to see Kaitlin, Torben, Sammy, Boomer and Hass. In the past I would have used Microsoft Streets and Trips on a PC to compare various routes, but we’ve now switched to Macs. It turns out that’s not a problem, both MapQuest and Google Maps will do the job.

Here are the three routes Google Maps suggested (I superimposed them on the same image and added the driving times):

And here are the three routes MapQuest suggested:

No two suggested routes are the same and the estimated times aren’t that different, so we have a wide choice.

Anyway, that’s what I’ve been playing with. What about you? Have you made any plans/played with any ideas for 2011?

Thanks to Mike, Ursula, Cathy and bikehikebabe for commenting on last week’s post.

Work til some time in the late summer, then take a long trip that will probably include Wisconsin. Take pictures. Keep travel diary for sharing trip and pictures on blog later .

    Mike,
That sounds like a great plan. I’ll follow your trip on a map…I do love maps.

Jean, You certainly deal with extreme cold. Makes me humble, which is always a good thing! Jody

Jean, for the past 12 years, my life has not allowed me to make any kind of long term plans. The situation is no better as the new year begins, with both my and my father’s health offering little scope for long term planning of any sort! I shall therefore continue to live one day at a time and enjoy each day to the extent possible.

Sammy is the dog. Are boomer & Hass cats or new dogs?

    Jody,
    Thanks!

    rummuser,
I gave up long range plans years ago. And “playing with ideas” is one of my great joys in life.

    bikehikebabe,
Boomer and Hass are my grandcats. Boomer likes to sleep and sometimes cuddle. Hass is the one who watches his DVDs every day.

Actually these pictures were taken a few years ago. They’re both a lot heavier now according to Kaitlin. We’ll probably see them this Spring.

    rummuser,
    PS

I shall therefore continue to live one day at a time and enjoy each day to the extent possible.

That sure beats sitting around feeling sorry for ourselves.

  9. Cathy in NZ says:

currently there is a plan in place

    starts: January 10th
    finishes: July 26th (or thereabouts)

at the conclusion time I should hopefully have passed the 24 papers required for my degree…(doesn’t inc the ones failed!).

rest of year is still under consideration. working on certain new challenge that will begin in probably August but might be beforehand because there will be only 1 paper at time (2 left) to accomplish…

Cathy, It’s recorded here. We’ll be checking up on you.
