Party Time?

Kaitlin and Torben arrived in Albuquerque yesterday around noon and will fly home early Saturday afternoon. We had hoped to go up to the land today, but we’re still not officially allowed. So instead Kaitlin and I spent most of the day documenting what was destroyed in the fire. She was an enormous help, and the whole job doesn’t look so impossible now. Bless her!

Torben and Andy helped some, but as you can see from the picture Sudoku received some attention too. 😀 I hope everyone else enjoyed the day as much as I did.

Thanks to Evan, Cathy, , Rummuser, bikehikebabe, Looney and Ursula for commenting on last week’s post.

Whenever I talk to you, you end the conversation with “Have fun,” your motto. The picture doesn’t show that, but I know you all are having fun being together & getting things done at the same time.

I am very glad that you had a grand time. I did too! All the day’s quota of crossword puzzles solved, blogging, commenting and catching up with news from all over the world, sending and receiving emails, reading, siesta, good food, some quality time with Ranjan. Not bad what?

Glad you had your family around.

This is in no way a criticism, just an observation. I believe some time ago you posted a similar photograph to show your family interacting: To me the concept of three people (or four including the photographer) sitting round a table all doing their own thing is so foreign you might as well plonk me on, I don’t know, Mars. When my close and wider family meet all we do is talk, talk, talk, interspersed by eating, drinking (whilst talking) and then some more. If one of us needs time out we flee to the loo or our bedroom. Or just fall underneath the table. But then my family is huge, and we don’t meet that often. And we all like to talk and be heard. Any age.

    Where are the dogs?

Ursula, Haha 🙂 This is the same with our family. I had 3 of my “kids” here with some grandchildren. Only quiet when they all left. Never could use my computer. Someone was always on Skype. (My it has improved with time.)

Well I love the interaction that your family was having – even if they seemed engrossed in some “tool” and it seemed to me to be the best option considering that the catch-up was supposed to be a trip to the “forest”

Never really having a family come en-mass to my home, I have no idea how they might interact with me. We usually meet for other reasons – usually something to do with food 🙂

    bikehikebabe,
Yes, we had a great time. Kaitlin and I worked a lot on the insurance stuff, with Andy there to answer questions about some of his tools, etc. He had gazillions, and K and T had a brilliant idea. We all went down to Metzger’s and walked up and down the aisles to jog his memory. When he saw something he had lost Torben took a picture and Kaitlin put the description of the item and the price into an Excel file on her iPhone. When we got back she downloaded the information into our files. Needless to say, that help was invaluable.

The weather was rainy and we still didn’t have official access to our land, so working on the insurance was a good use of our time.

We also had a good time talking and laughing. Then yesterday afternoon we received an e-mail saying if we went to the Walatowa Visitor Center in Jemez Springs this morning we could sign waivers and get keys to let us into our property. Kaitlin and Torben needed to get to the Albuquerque airport by 12:30, so we all got up between 5 and 5:30 so we could get to the center when it opened at 8. We actually got there by 7:30 because we weren’t exactly sure how long it would take, and the ranger showed up around 8:15, surprised that we and two of our neighbors were there waiting. He was very pleasant and we were on our way back to the land by 8:30. As predicted some of the non-Forest Service roads are pretty bad–we couldn’t work on cleaning out culverts while we were banished–but we got up there and K and T had ~15 minutes to look around and take pictures. It was a gorgeous day, a beautiful drive and we got them to the airport on time, so it was a great and memorable trip. 😀

    Rummuser,
That sounds like a great day to me!

    Ursula,
Those pictures are true but also partially a joke. I took this one because the previous one still cracks me up. Kaitlin, Andy and I talk for about two hours every Sunday evening, so we do keep in touch. And we always do a lot of laughing.

    Cathy,
They’re fun to have around and to visit. In the picture Torben is checking in on his work computer and Kaitlin has both her work computer (black) and personal computer (white) going. She’s a great multi-tasker. Andy is playing Sudoku, finishing up the last challenging problems in the book. There was a lot more interaction when we started looking up information for insurance. I really enjoyed it.
