Still Waiting

This view of the clearing was taken last Thursday. That was the day Joe was supposed to go down to Bernalillo to get the building permits, so between that and the weather we weren’t surprised that Andy was the only one up there. But Friday was beautiful and still no one else came up.

The weekend was gorgeous and the same is predicted for the first part of the coming week. So Andy is going to phone Steve tomorrow morning to see if (1) we now have the permits, and (2) if they will take advantage of the good weather to get something done on the construction. I will let you know!

In the meantime Andy is cutting down more trees and we’ve been making decisions on the roofing, windows, exterior colors, etc. so some progress is being made.

Thanks to Mike, Evan, tammy, Cathy and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

    Hope they come thru soon!

I guess the county office (whatever you call the people who do permits) is under pressure by a whole lot of other people wanting to build again…

At least you’ve got other planning things to made decisions on whilst you wait…as bhb as said “ho hum…”

    bikehikebabe,
We’re doing other things while we wait. The main concern is the weather. If the winter is as mild as they’re predicting we should still be able to get Andy some shelter built before Spring.

    Diane,
    Thanks!

    Cathy,
Apparently it’s a lot easier to get permits in Sandoval County than it is in a lot of places. The problem is that since we bought the land 35 years ago the population of the county has exploded, and most of the people live in Rio Rancho, an urbanized area. The rules that are appropriate for them don’t make quite as much sense for people trying to build in the middle of a 40-acre plot of land.

Apparently we do have the county permit now, the problem is the fellow who handles the state permits was gone the end of last week. They said he would review our application in the next couple of days. Usually it’s done in a couple of hours so Joe went back down today to see if he could speed things up.

Waiting can be such a pain. In my case, it is indeed painful waiting for the eight weeks to be over before I can use both my legs. As my cheerful surgeon said to me – “Short term pain for long term gain!”

All this bad news crap is putting me in a bad mood. I want to go from this 🙁 –to this– 😀

    Rummuser,
You have my sympathy. Been there. Done that. No hip replacement but a frozen shoulder—not serious but very painful–that took me about a year to recover from.

Yes, the health providers can be very cheerful. My physical therapist during torture time had a big smile when she said, “It’s all right to scream, Jean. Sometimes it helps.” I passed on the screaming and instead focused on my breathing.

    bikehikebabe,
It helps to have a sense of humor. 😀
