Exciting Week

It was a great week. We picked up Kaitlin and Torben at the Albuquerque airport around noon Monday, and the Tuff Shed people built our shed Tuesday and Wednesday:

For more pictures of building the shed start here.

The time for pouring the concrete slab for the house is getting closer, so we all went over the plans to make sure they represented what we really want. Kaitlin and Torben were invaluable.

We made some important changes so today (Thanksgiving) we went up and looked at the plans at the house site to make sure we liked the new version, and also to figure out where we wanted the windows.

In the evening Torben and Kaitlin drew the plans in Power Point so we would have a neat version to show Steve when we meet with him again, hopefully sometime this coming week.

It was an unconventional Thanksgiving, but it helped Andy and me a lot and it was a good way to bond as a family. It’s a week I’ll always remember and I’m grateful for having them in my life.

What about you? Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? Whatever the answer, was this a special week for you?

Thanks to Cathy, bikehikebabe and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

    Great progress indeed.

No, we do not have a special thanks giving day or feast. I do on a daily basis and I write a weekly list in my blog.

    My weeks are always special!

    I am a freak!

At 11:00 snakelady (computer name), her husband, Tom & I went to the Elks Club for the free Thanksgiving dinner for lonely souls. (We left a donation.) The usual–deep fried turkey, canned sweet potatoes with marshmallows melted on top, etc…need I say more. I ate breakfast so I didn’t actually eat.

At 4:00 Tom & I went to another dinner for 3 other foodnerd families. The hostess made a full dinner with a turkey. I was surprised because our foodnerd leader & family are vegans. The rest of us added culinary delights. Finest ingredients used (a foodnerd quality). Ex.-A dark green vegetable & large mushrooms in the dressing. The cream in the tea was made from the milk of pressed coconuts (our leader being vegan–no dairy).

After dinner we played a complicated board game, Trains. Were 12 little kids (wild & crazy). Two of our grandchildren are already in college. Running kids are fun when they’re not yours.

I should add that foodnerd leader presses her own coconuts to make coconut cream.

This year, we’re in Wisconsin with younger daughter and her family for Thanksgiving. We’ll be heading home sometime on Sunday. Good visit.

We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving either in NZ…unless of course, I guess you came from that ethnic cultural medium.

I don’t know whether it is even something I would consider to celebrate athough like Rummuser I celebrate gratitude of things that are poured down on me by others.

These last few months, everywhere I have gone – craft-wise people have congratulated me on getting my degree and being capped. Up until then, I hadn’t really thought about “others” being in my loop on the matter…

I appreciate help from my gov’t that I have enough money in my bank account to pay the necessities of life and also a few other things…if I didn’t I don’t know quite how I would be living the life 🙂

oops forgot to say – nice shed…great that you and your family could sit down and sort out the plans so that everyone was on the same page…

    Rummuser,
No I can’t see you as a freak. Your attitude sounds like common sense to me. 🙂

    bikehikebabe,
It sounds as if you had a great time. That’s neat.

    Mike,
I’m glad you had a great family visit.

    Cathy,
Yes, we’re happy with the shed. It’s a nice cheerful color and from a distance it fits in nicely.

I’m happy that you have a good safety net and can enjoy a good life. I can well imagine that your friends care about what you’re doing. You’re an inspiration to me.

I’m eagerly awaiting some of your new pictures tomorrow. The weather has been dry & great.

    bikehikebabe,
I am including three more pictures at Cheerful Monk, and I uploaded to Flickr a number of pictures Andy took on a walk he took up Cerro Grande. I think you will like them. They start here.

it still bleak, the surrounding landscape…

it will be interesting to see what pops up next Spring…

but at least the shed looks relatively enclosed and cosy 🙂

    Cathy,
The area is definitely a lot more open and spacious than it used to be! We took a walk up there Thursday and my main feeling wasn’t so much missing the trees as thinking it would be nice if we could cut down a few more dead ones to open up the view. It’s completely different now, but it’s not without its own beauty.
