Winter Has Struck!

Joe was originally going up tomorrow to do more work, but they’re predicting more snow with highs around 20° F. for the next two days. Not exactly building weather. We’re hoping this unusually early cold snap won’t hurt the new concrete. Time will tell.

Andy practiced plowing the road yesterday and will probably plow again tomorrow because it will need it. Winter has come!

What about where you are? Cathy and Evan will be dealing with summer instead of winter, of course.

Thanks to Cathy and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

  1. Evan says:

Summer (very) sort of in Sydney. Quite wintery – cold (comparatively) and rainy and grey. We had a hot November and are apparently in for a cool December.

But cold is comparative of course. It’s probably never snowed in Sydney.

  2. Mike Goad says:

Winter! No snow, but cold. Looks like we got 3 to 4 inches of rain so far out out of this system. That makes close to 10 inches for the last 30 days. Highs in the low 40s with lows in the 20s predicted — looks like I’ll be winterizing the motorhome in the next couple of days.

  3. Rummuser says:

No snow here, and the temperatures are around 30d max and 14d Celsius minimum. Very comfortable and the only problem is my house arrest!

  4. bikehikebabe says:

I’m under house arrest too; self inflicted. I’m going through all my “stuff”. I like it inside. It’s cold, gloomy & snowy out there but not enough to ski or snowshoe.

  5. Mike Goad says:

Snow missed us by about 30 miles. Saw a chunk on the highway that came off someones vehicle.

  6. cathy in NZ says:

no snow here either but the weather pretty darn changeable…

the day will start fine, then around nine it will be wet, midday fine…

today, early got up to go walking it’s drizzling…hang around and then decide “go” it by then later and the traffic has woken up, the footpaths are wet but it clears until I’m just about home when it starts drizzle and then gets a bit like rain…

it’s now around 9.30am and I see some weak sun…is it’s going to clear up. who knows!!

I do have to go out again today…post package, return library book, look at world but nothing is on a deadline. Tomorrow though, need it to be fine, going into the City to meet a friend for coffee at the Uni campus – please be fine/warm 🙂

oops…forgot to say. Even though you don’t want the “snow-look” it makes the burnt out forest look very, very interesting. It gives the shed a “look” of having been there forever 🙂

  7. bikehikebabe says:

I must get on something orange for the pics here.

I left the impression that today was “gloomy”. That was fog which lifted & the sun came out. We have lots of sun here. You arrive, a plum & turn into a prune. The constant sun will do that if you don’t wear a big brim hat.

  8. cathy in NZ says:

I see what you are saying Mike and I both seem to be wearing red/orange tops. Maybe I have to change my pic as I do have a lot of other coloured tops…I’ve got a deep but bright blue one on today…

  9. Jean says:

    Evan,
I’m afraid that sounds like great summer weather to me. We don’t like it hot. On the other hand, it’s a couple of degrees above zero Fahrenheit (-15 C) right now, and that’s a bit too cold. I guess some people are just hard to please. 🙂

    Mike,
That’s quite a bit of rain! And those lows are plenty cold enough. Are they unusual? Our cold snap is unusually early and they say the temperatures are record breaking or near record breaking.

    Cathy,
That unpredictability sounds like a real nuisance if you plan to go out.

I think the snow makes everything look a lot prettier, especially the shed. The snow-covered roof looks great with the white trim. Of course, at the moment I’m staying down here and just enjoying the pictures Andy brings back. 🙂

    Rummuser,
Your daytime temperatures are a bit high to be ideal for me, but they could be a lot worse. I agree with bikehikebabe, if it were as cold there as it is here you wouldn’t mind staying in. Especially because the sidewalks can get icy.

  10. Mike Goad says:

Looks like the rainfall is about twice the norm for this period and the projected temperatures are about 5 to 10 degrees below normal.

  11. tammy says:

    hi everybody!
such fun hearing about all the different places you are and what the weather is there. i wish we had that pretty snow!
we are in a cold snap. i’m watering and feeding the little birds.
winds up to 20 mph and the temp is 27 (which is -16 celcius?)
and then later tonight it will drop to 18 (-.04 celcius? never am sure!) anyway … very cold because of the ever present wind.
your shed, or andy’s shed i guess… is just adorable.
don’t tell andy i used the word adorable!
    i know… it’s a very handsome shed.
but i think it looks cozy and cute there in the snow.
    hope the concrete is okay.

  12. bikehikebabe says:

Tammy I’m glad you returned. I wanted to tell you that I’m going through crates of clothes. I’m finding mice poison pellets, a chewed-on acorn, bit of a walnut that mousey had tucked away for a later meal — which never happened. 🙁
And I’m sure he/she was an adorable little thing.

  13. Jean says:

    tammy,
It’s Andy’s shed but I picked out the colors. They turned out to be a good choice, but it’s hard to tell from small swatches.

Andy took some more pictures today. The shed looks so small and brave in this one.

  14. tammy says:

oh bhb… remember ralph! only way to not have to worry about that with the wee mouse people is to only keep a small wardrobe of clothes and not “store” any! i have only those things i wear all the time, both summer and winter. about 45 pieces in all. i think they don’t come around in a closet that you’re always getting things in and out of!
monk… i love the red! so cheerful. you ‘did good!’
and i like the way you said “the shed looks so small and brave.” it does.
we have a good group don’t we?
i’m thinking of evan in aussie land and then mike winterizing and rummy in sunny puna and cathy having lunch with a friend in new zealand… and bhb who always makes me laugh for some reason… and you monk, the calm cheerful connecting voice for this little group of friends.
i know i sound too pollyanna, but i just am.

  15. Jean says:

    tammy,
I love your cheerful attitude. 🙂
