Eventful Week

The above picture of our porch was taken Monday morning with my iPod. The picture below highlights the three jacks that the maintenance men installed after pondering the roof beam for a while.

The next day the two guys came back with Joe, our contractor, and they pondered the beam for a while longer. We haven’t seen anyone since. Presumably in the fullness of time they will do something, and presumably they think we’re safe since they haven’t condemned the building. I will keep you posted.

Tuesday Andy and I went to Santa Fe for the first time in months. It looks as if I’ve just about recovered from that stupid bug. 🙂

And yesterday, Wednesday, March 7th. That’s the day Apple unveiled the new iPad. It has the same retinal display that I love on my iPod, and I’ve been using that more and more, so I had decided just that morning that in the fullness of time I would also try the iPad.

As it turns out they started taking pre-orders that very day for shipping on March 16th. I decided what the heck, I might as well join the crowd and put myself on the list. The website had problems but I kept trying, and once when I tried phoning they were so jammed they weren’t even putting people on hold at that time. They simply weren’t trying to answer. The second time I phoned I was put on hold but managed to finish my purchase on the website and hung up. I could have waited, of course, but it was an easy adventure. That evening the news said that 55 million of us had ordered that day. [Update: i just looked at the iPad sales figures for last year. That number is way too high, but there were a bunch of us.] Mostly I avoid crowds, but not this one. 😀

How eventful was your week?

Tom decided he’d get ipad 2 for $100 less since ipad 3 appeared. But after seeing the hour video of Tim Cook (CEO of Apple) talk about ipad 3, he decided to get that. (Tim has got to be the best salesman around.) Asked me black or white ipad. Black of course. White gets dirty.

Tim gets a $378 million compensation package. Steve Jobs only got $1. I don’t know exactly how that worked. Jean???

Tom said that Steve Jobs started the company so there was no need for compensation. There’s a 35% tax on cash but only 15 % on stock & we don’t know what Tim Cook’s set-up is. Whether that $$ is in capital gains or cash payment.

    bikehikbabe,
Walter Isaacson talked about compensation in his Steve Jobs. Steve did have stock, of course, but Apple tried to talk him into taking more salary. He said he didn’t really want that, what he really wanted was his own plane. So they gratefully gave him one. Then he decided he also wanted a potful (can’t remember the amount) of money too. He wasn’t the easiest person to get along with.

I ordered the black too. I didn’t hear Tim Cook’s presentation. I just read the reviews to see the new features and was sold by the retinal display.

That propping up of the porch sounds alarming. I hope that whatever the cause for the sag, it will be fixed soon.

I am glad that you are up and about and you have been debugged.

Eventful is an understatement in my case. Just be a little patient and you can read all about it tomorrow on my weekly gratitude list.

    Rummuser,
Andy thinks the problem might be that the posts supporting the porch might be starting to rot. The porch does seem to sag more than the roof, so we’ll just have to see. If I suddenly stop writing you can guess what happened. 😀

I’m looking forward to reading your post tomorrow.

If you suddenly stop writing, I’ll call 911 & rush over to dig you out.

My week was so-so, fabulous, disaster, confusion!

Over on my wordpress site is a good, happier thoughts…then in the comments you will notice things went off-edge to further and further down the tubes…

I’ll write about some time next week, as I still have a lot of things to do to try and sort it out. One of my lecturers, a guy has got like a dog with bone and he believes what happened is “insanity” and wants me to see someone else with a bigger bone!!

In the meantime, I can continue with the classes that are pleasing me…

Even that is confusing the different electronic and real persons who have sent me so many messages that I’m feeling either:

    shafted,
    confused
    disillusioned

oh and my scanner had already up and died a second time, and now my printer thinks I don’t really want anything printed – the whizz is coming on Monday morning…also on same morning another person to do with hand-spinning!

But my 500 word assignment is coming along “lovely” that’s due electronically anytime from now to midday Monday…

    bikehikebabe,
    Thank you! 😀

    Cathy,
I sure hope things improve for you next week!
