Center Roof Beam

This past Thursday I wrote about sheathing the cabin. Friday they installed the center roof beam:

They plan to continue working on the roof this week.

They also brought up our bathtub and took it into the house. Presumably the plumber is starting to think about installing that soon? We’ll just have to see.

How was your week?

Thanks to Rummuser, tammy, Nick, dcrelief, Cathy, Max and Kate for commenting on last week’s post.

I have an idea! The workers could stay overnight & save the long drive the next day. They’d sleep out & watch the stars in the night sky. If it rained–fat chance–there’s the shed to use. They’d be more rested; get more done. You might bring them a picnic dinner & have a party. Sing around the campfire. Nix that part!!!

You will soon have everything in place! Very fast work.

Mine was mostly routine but since I gave up three crosswords a day, I was able to read a lot, including the book on difficult conversations suggested by you. Thank you.

When I gave away most all my books, I kept Difficult Conversations suggested by Jean.

A mixed week. No disasters just a few things to handle.

Hope you get a bath soon.

I had a very productive week! ~Began a painting on canvas of a seashell; my home theme is the beach, though I’m four hours from the closest beach.(smile) ~Gathered clothes I need to take up… now to the sewing machine! ~Also watched my ‘god-daughter’ plant some flowers from her own yard in my bottom lot. (I was itching to weed a flower bed, but I’m not crazy! One topple over and might be in this shoulder sling for life!)

Looks like you have a lot to do for the yard, as well. Maybe a nice rock garden, a la Zen, for now!(smile) So happy for the your progress. Dixie

My landlord and his brother have gone bonkers with maintenance; many of the jammed windows will now open, latch and shut again – plus whilst dealing with one with a wide cracked pane – got it instantly repaired by called up a glass company…

Not sure what has pushed them this far but I’m not complaining…they had though forgotten about dilemma in the bathroom where the tiles are abandoning the wall, I believe they hope to get someone in to repair that the end of this week – that is somewhat more VIP as the shower is over the bath and water will seep into the woodwork!

Some other things as per usual have been overlooked but that is why the rent is so cheap (in comparison of market rates) and really they are only cosmetic things that need some attention…

Other than that, just trying to keep warm 🙂 and well 🙂

    Rummuser,
I’m glad you like the book. It’s one of my favorites.

    bikehikebabe,
My guess is they’re happy going home at the end of the day, but it is a neat idea.

    Evan,
    Glad there were no disasters.

Thanks for the good wishes but I’m in no hurry for things to be finished. I’m enjoying watching the progress now that my part is essentially done.

    Dixie,
Glad you had a good week. We’ll eventually water the grass, but except for daffodils it’s useless to plant flowers. They’re immediately eaten. We’ve been there, tried that.

    Cathy,
After all this time it’s great they’re doing the repairs! Good luck on staying warm and well.

Baths seem to be going out of fashion here, everyone uses showers. Easier than filling the bath, I guess.

My week was good. Saw an amazing blues band on Sunday at our local coffee shop. The intensity of the music actually shattered a sundae glass. Never seen that happen before!

  9. Jean says:

    Nick,
We also take showers instead of baths. We thought about just having a shower stall instead of a bathtub with a shower, but the bathtub arrangement took up less useable space. That was a surprise.

  10. Rummuser says:

Showers also mean use of less water!

    Hi Jean,

    Construction is going well.

How was my week? Busy: too much stuff to read.

    Cheers

i’m a shower person. it’s just either so soothing or so invigorating… whichever you need. i always picture myself showering under a waterfall or by the sea. heaven!
i’ve been hesitant to come here…
been watching again as our beloved west just keeps burning.
i didn’t know how close the fires were to you and bhb again.
the wildlife. the trees. my heart hurts.
but i see that your new cabin and land are safe. and…
going up up up! it’s so exciting!

  13. Jean says:

    Max,
Sorry it was so busy. I enjoy doing things but hate feeling rushed.

    Tammy,
    I agree about showers.

Yes, bikehikebabe and we are safe from wildfires at the moment. There is a question of lightning with our little cabin so exposed. Andy left a couple of tall dead trees to have something higher than us, and we will have lightning protection. We will just have to see. Andy is going to check to be sure we’re insured for that contingency.
