For Better or For Worse

For better or for worse the exterior cabin colors have been set.

We still like the bittersweet chocolate, but we would have preferred the antique copper (the dark tan) to be more like our sample, less red and a bit lighter.

On the other hand, the barbados sand under the roof turned out to be an almost exact match for the soil. A bit spilled and we can’t tell where:

All in all we’re glad the exterior is almost done. The west door needs to be painted terra cotta and the columns and the to-be-installed crosspieces on the east and west sides will be the bittersweet chocolate. We’re prepared to like it. 🙂

They’re starting to put the insulation in the inside of the house and with any luck the drywall guys will start working next week. To be continued….

How was your week?

Thanks to Evan, Rummuser, Cathy, bikehikebabe and Dixie for commenting on last week’s post.

It’s not only for the better. It’s for THE BEST!

I think that with the fading that is bound to take place, the cottage will acquire character.

    My week was eventful.

    bikehikebabe,
    Thank you!

    Rummuser,
It’s already a bit of a character since the roof is almost twice as long as the cabin itself. It doesn’t look as strange as we thought it might, and we did want those covered patios. I told Andy the colors do look appropriate for a cabin in the woods. Of course, we no longer have the woods, but that’s a different matter. 🙂

Yes, your life has changed a lot this past week. Your burden has been lifted, and you have the satisfaction that you played your part extremely well. As always, I’m wishing you well.

A fairly easy week for me.

Busy week – went too fast – I still have things to do on “The List”. I think the cabin is very nice and fits in wonderfully with the environment. I envision green trees, and it’s lovely!

    Evan,
I’m glad it was easy for you.

    Dixie,
My weeks fly by too, but I don’t worry about doing everything on my list. I call it a “Possibility List” and mostly do what grabs my attention. The important stuff eventually gets done on time. Life is too short not to enjoy it, and somehow it keeps getting shorter and shorter. 😀

You said on Rummuser’s blog that your mother was angry when she said, “If that’s all you have happen to you, you’ll be very lucky.” Then you stopped feeling sorry for yourself.

A throwaway thought like that had such profound meaning for you. (That’s why you’re Cheerful Monk.) You said it better.

Your first photo of the “black stick” wilderness reveals that your cabin is well spaced from another or is that because not many other owners are replacing their shelters…

My week was actually not terribly busy, as in going out but the weekend was and next weekend won’t be any different. It does though give me a lot to look forward to. Today is Monday and most of that has been about my quarterly health check-up. Monday is never a good day at the doctor and I had to wait over 45mins even though I had an appointment. Later, after I had picked up my pills/potions I ambled over to the next suburb to the library…nice little walk back, bussed there.

Rest of the week, art related 🙂

  9. Jean says:

    Cathy,
    Yes, it’s very well spaced.

I sympathize with your wait at the doctor’s. Years ago I would sometimes have to wait for hours for some of mine. The doctor I have now does a lot better than that.

It sounds as if your weather was nice enough for a walk. That’s great.
