Better Late Than Never

Shed and partially finished cabin, 9/22/12.

We were hoping to have a heated shed for Andy last winter, but we didn’t get the final occupancy permit until about three weeks ago. And we were hoping to have his water system, complete with solar power for the pump, finished in time to plant and water some trees this spring. That wasn’t finished until last week. But we’re not complaining. Better late than never!

Have you ever experienced better late than never?

Thanks to Rummuser, bikehikebabe, tammy, Dixie, Cathy, Nick and Max for commenting on last week’s post.

“Better late than never” sounds like some of my “projects.”

Permitting isn’t an issue where we live. None required. (I just checked the county website to make sure and there isn’t even a hint of anything like that for residential.)

You have got to see my “better late than never” having already taken place. I stay up late reading when the mood takes me, sleep late, and take off to do things that I had not done in a few years.

i’m not a long term project person. i’m a starter! and yes. if it’s long term by chance, it’s usually better late than never. lol.

My Little grandson said to me, “It’s never too late.” (He’s in college now but I still remember that.)

When I said 2 or 3 times to the son of my other son, “You need a nap,” he screamed back “NO”. His (very young) brother said, “You’re not helping.”

I have two smart daughter-in-laws for their moms. The little boys taught me lessons.

Oh yes indeed, which may say something about my level of (im-)patience.

There are times when my health issues cause delay for a project. I just figure out what I can do for that particular day and go with it. It might be easier to paint than wash down basement walls!!
Your home away home is beautiful; it’s exciting to watch the progress. Yay!

    Mike,
We wish our area was that enlightened. We couldn’t even start our shed until we had the plans for the house and, as I recall, its foundation done. The problem is that even though we’re way out in the country a lot of the county is urban. They believe one size fits all.

    Rummuser,
    I’m happy for you!

    tammy,
We’ll have to see how it looks after they paint the columns and cross pieces. We were hoping they would start that today, but no one showed up.

    bikehikebabe,
    Great stories. Thanks. 🙂

    Evan,
I think it’s a great attitude to have. I’m having all sorts of computer problems at the moment, so it will be a while before I work my way through them and get back to organizing my photos. I also found a potful of new files that have disappeared from their folders. It doesn’t pay to be in a rush.

    Dixie,
Agreed! I’ve learned to be flexible too. Hope the health issues aren’t too bad.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that they do the final painting on the outside before the weather gets too cold.

  8. Nick says:

If I had a pound for everything that was better late than never, I’d be a rich man. Especially all those things promised by tradespeople and businesses that invariably drag on for weeks and months. And tax refunds. And train journeys.

    Nick,
I’ve just spent several days trying to get some computer programs to work. One of the several problems was my automatic backup program wasn’t working correctly. I just bought a new time capsule (hardware) and am doing the initial backup. After over 24 hours and phone calls to tech support it is working very slowly—at the moment less than one GB an hour. If it doesn’t experience a jump in speed the remaining 37 GB will take another day or two. The gal at tech support says if it isn’t done by the end of the weekend phone back. I’m practicing my patience–a quality well worth developing. 🙂

I’m also working on my sense of humor. See my last comment about our chimney at Transforming Stress.
