Indoor Plumbing

Frank making template for the kitchen countertop.

Frank came up today to make the template for the countertops. He and Peter (the plumber) had a long discussion about exactly where the sinks would go, and Frank took the sinks with him to aid him in the cutting.

Our compact bathroom.

Peter also installed our toilet, so presumably in a couple of weeks we should have a working kitchen and bathroom. 🙂

How was your week?

Thanks to Mike, Evan, bikehikebabe, Cathy and Dixie for commenting on last week’s post.

Busy meeting long out of touch friends and relatives and having a ball. Now that I am back home, I feel deflated!

The kitchen sink is nice under a window. Look out when washing dishes, not that Andy will have lots of dishes.

It suddenly turned cold here. Perfect time for “us” to plant snakelady’s 26 little juniper trees. Snakelady rescues & tends to 50+ snakes & gives “snakes are good” programs around the state. And she’s rescued these little trees. We’re adopting them. The bear will plant the trees today. I say the bear (my husband) will plant the trees. Not WE will plant them. Refers to “WE killed the bear” when only the husband killed the bear. (Hope this makes sense.)

Incredibly intense stuff for about three days, getting back on an even keel now

    Rummuser,
I’m glad you had a good time. 🙂

    bikehikebabe,
Yes, that was the purpose of the window over the sink.

It’s supposed to get below freezing tonight, so I’m afraid the little bit of grass Andy planted up there will die. It was struggling as it was.

    Evan,
It sounds as if you’ve been through a lot. I’m glad things are settling down a bit.

Last was termed a short 4 day working week, because of the public holiday on the 22nd honouring the 40hr week back some long time ago. People got the right to go home earlier but it has been said that many people now either have no choice or they just like to put in 50hrs + anyway…

It is also a point of time in the gardening calendar to get some summer veges in, possibly something for Christmas time…but I find that if I put things in a “big nasty weather comes around and stunts/kills everything” – not sure what I’m putting in my spare bed this year…

On Wednesday, I had an unexpected day out when the courier came very early (the month before, I finally had to call company late arvo to see where he was?) so I took off on an Art Day Out to Papakura Art Gallery – some hours away from home…had a few transport hassles but I did get to the Gallery and see the small exhibition that a friend has an exhibit in.

Because I had planned another rather heavy art day on Saturday took Thur/Frid off and then on Sat – got a very bad bout of hayfever/minor cold and that along with today (Sun) everything curtailed! Grumpy bunny here 🙂 🙂 🙂

But I got a lot of books read/looked at so I guess not all is wasted…

Love the cabinet color; goes so well with the exterior ones.
So, I take it the totem pole idea is out? Lol. How about a nice concrete statue of an owl? 🙂

New… come Thursday I’ll have a roommate in the basement. She can also bring in a stove and refrigerator. It’s lovely down there and I hope she’ll be happy.
Come Friday I’ll be storing lawn equipment for a couple whose home burned down. The only item that survived the fire was a ceramic angel that sat on the fireplace hearth. We’re grateful the couple survived(electrical fire). This will allow them 2-4 months to access another home or a rental storage unit. I’m not bragging or complaining; I’m blessed to have enough room to be of help, you know(?)!

    Cathy,
I hope you’re feeling better again! Even though I know you’re in NZ, it still seems strange to be thinking of planting veggies so they might be ready by Christmas. 🙂

    Dixie,
I know what you mean. Some of my happiest moments are when I can help someone else.

I’m so sorry for your friends’ loss. Did they have insurance? A lot of the things we have are irreplaceable, but insurance does help rebuilding a life.

All better again…most of those kind of hayfevery days are about reminding me how fragile I can get!

Still haven’t got anything nailed down about veges…thinking maybe putting in more short term salad sort of greens. People are starting to talk about Christmas especially in relationship to summer time “recess” for my craft guilds. The talk on Tuesday night was about which night to stop and when to start next February!!!

  9. Jean says:

    Cathy,
Glad you’re feeling better! How long is the recess?

  10. Cathy in NZ says:

most places stop around 1st – 2nd week of December and then do not start again until early Feb…a bit like your Summer when “school” is out for the Summer. Over the Xmas/New Year there are oodles of public holidays – even more if something falls on a w/end!

I haven’t really started thinking about Xmas other than last year the person I do the day with was terribly unwell and it was a bit of a disaster. We do have a standing invitation to something my family offer but he is uneasy in their company…I saw him briefly today on a bus and I mentioned that we could do the family thing and he said “I will consider that” which is a huge step forward because usually he says “NO”

I have actually been making the effort with my family as I feel that I need to and so I don’t think it will be as onerous as it usually is…they have a big problem called the “frugal chip of the year on their respective shoulders” and it is somewhat difficult because Xmas is supposed to be about “love and so forth…”

I have a history of memory of some very weird gifts!! 1/2 a block of chocolate with torn wrapper; a dishwashing scrubbing brush; a huge bottle of shampoo; a box of generic tissues…this last item I thought was hiding something fragile and gorgeous 🙁

I’m not required to give a gift and I stopped when I was offered everything back one year “to sell” – ooops…- sorry, it’s just hard to have family when they do really strange things!!!
