Done by Thanksgiving?

If you recall, Joe, the contractor, said they would be done by Thanksgiving. That’s mostly true. We now have our certificate of occupancy and have paid Joe, but there a couple of things left to do. One is they have to fix the sink or else install another one that drains properly, and that shouldn’t cost us anything more. The refrigerator is a bigger problem. We always wondered how they would install it with that side panel preventing access to the back:

Andy had mentioned it to them, but they were still thinking in terms of an electric refrigerator where you just plug in the cord and push the refrigerator towards the wall. That doesn’t work with propane. Hooking the tubes is more complicated, and, as it turns out, the refrigerator light is powered by D batteries, which are in the back. So Andy, Joe, Steve (the architect) and Dan (the cabinet fellow) are planning to meet up there Monday morning to decide how to proceed. Andy has told them we’re willing to help with the extra cost on this one, since they haven’t done this sort of thing before. I will let you know how it turns out.

At any rate we’re thankful that we’re as far along as we are. How about you? Do you celebrate Thanksgiving where you are? Is there anything in particular you’re grateful for? Whatever the answer I hope you all had a great day.

Even tho’ you didn’t sign your picture, we know you drew that turkey. You have your own style. Nice 🙂

That frig. looks like it holds enough food for a family of 6 for 2 weeks. That’s a house refrigerator. A cabin one is little & a (servel) propane gas one. You have to eat what you bring up because you don’t leave the refrigerator on when you’re gone.

Oh, I reread this & see that it IS a propane frig. Andy, Joe, Steve & Dan will have to figure that one out. This is not a problem. It’s a challenge, like you like.

    bikehikebabe,
Do you have a refrigerator in your cabin? Ours is a Servel, and I don’t know how big it is inside. Andy did say the light isn’t very bright, for obvious reasons. It will be interesting to see how long the batteries last. Andy will be going up almost every day, so the refrigerator will be on all the time.

About problems–yes, we did gazillions of problem sets when I was a physics major. I don’t remember much physics, but I do know how to learn by solving problems.

Thanksgiving day was very quiet and nice; spent time with family and friends. I’m grateful for wisdom.

Friday was my birthday so I’m grateful for longevity! 😉

No we don’t have a frig at the cabin. In winter for cross country skiing, we use snow. In summer we freeze a gal. of water for the insulated box. Can’t think of name for that now.

And Dixie how many birthdays have you had. 🙂 Or is that a secret?

Thanksgiving is not celebrated here in New Zealand. One of my friends on facebook thought that we should have imported that rather than Halloween – although the later isn’t really celebrated here either.

Instead we have Guy Fawkes night which continues often for weeks even though fireworks are only sale for about a week leading up to the night…I think people stockpile them. G.F. is a British tradition bought by the colonists!

I absolutely loathe G.F. because a certain thing that occurred a couple of years ago, far too close to personal home/me…I am so jumpy on the actual night and anything else close by.

    Dixie,
    Happy birthday!

When I was a teen one of my ambitions was to gain some wisdom by the time I was 60. I traded that in years ago for “beginner’s mind”. It helps a lot when dealing with computers–life is never dull. 🙂

    bikehikebabe,
That’s what I thought I remembered you saying.

We originally were looking for a small refrigerator that might fit under a counter, but we wanted Servel because of the quality. The only choice was almond or white, 8 cubic feet total.

    Cathy,
I hate the noise of fireworks, even more so now that I understand how they terrorize dogs. Our fireworks are mostly on the Fourth of July to celebrate our independence. I never quite understood why the English celebrate a plot to blow up parliament, except it’s a good excuse for people who do like the noise of fireworks.

No, we do not have a special day for thanksgiving. I give it all the time!

    I gave a special one yesterday for an uneventful 26/11 (http://www.dnaindia.com/mumbai/report_mumbai-pays-homage-to-26-11-victims_1769967) – AND http://rummuser.com/?p=693
