Pluses and Minuses

They’re still trying to figure out why our sink doesn’t drain, and it’s not clear where the responsibility lies. It will no doubt cost us more money even if they don’t manage to fix it. So much for going with high quality. It’s actually funny— well, maybe with a bit of mental effort. The kitchen and bathroom fixtures are more top-of-the-line than we would have chosen on our own, but we went along with the architect’s choice of providers because we figured they would be hassle-free. Yeah, sure. 😀

We still don’t have our storm door on the west and some cold air is coming through the holes in the two glass doors on the east—where the door handles are supposed to be.

On the other hand, the heater and wood stove work fine and we have some temporary furniture in the living room–a card table and chairs, a cot for more sitting space. Plus the bathroom seems to work fine.

It looks a lot better than it did a year ago!

Clearly there have been more pluses than minuses up there this past year. What has your year been like?

Thanks to Mike, Evan, Dixie, bikehikebabe, Cathy and Rummuser for commenting on last week’s post.

I would say that the year has been very eventful. I had my share of frustration and tension and stress, but overall, eventful sums it up nicely.

  2. bikehikebabe says:

My year was eventful too, though I can’t remember a lot of the events.

  3. Evan says:

    Overall pretty tough.

  4. Maria says:

Unblocking the sink (in the everyday sense) is my least favourite job. It’s on a par with putting out the garbage.

    Rummuser,
Yes, you’ve been through a lot. It will be interesting to see where you will be next year this time. I hope you have a great year.

    bikehikebabe,
That reminds me of when I was working. I knew I was busy but when asked for my contribution to regular status reports my mind was always a blank. Fortunately I documented as I went along so I could jog my memory.

    Evan,
I’m sorry about that. I hope things will be easier and more rewarding this coming year.

  6. Dixie says:

You have a beautiful location; charming and enchanting!
This year has been like a kiddie roller coaster ride; slightly up, slightly down, and lots of cries to get off. But… “I’m a big kid now!” 🙂

a year of dramatic changes…each time seemed to be the right thing to do…still not sure if I will return to study at University but as time evolves in the current change seems a lesser chance 🙂

I’m beginning to like being a homebody – although I am not quite the homebody of old, because I am continuing my education just from a different angle…

Life has it moments but mostly it’s okay…

    Dixie,
You should have seen it when it had trees! I’ve never been on a real roller coaster, but I like your analogy—sometimes in life we’re not given a choice.

    Cathy,
I’m a homebody too. And I like independent study rather than taking formal classes. It’s a lot more exciting and effective for me. I would love to hear more details about what you’re doing/learning.

Jean: will try to write a blog on what I might have learnt over the last few months sometime real soon. Yesterday I was looking over the list of DVDs that come with the course, and found that something, I thought I couldn’t learn is on one of them…so I have a lot of watching to do over the next or two!

  10. Jean says:

    Cathy,
I’m looking forward to reading about it!
