Ready for Fall

Summer isn’t over yet, but the college football season starts August 31st. The grandpups are all ready for it — Sammy’s T-shirt says Michigan Son, Montana’s says Michigan Daughter.

Fall always reminds me of school starting when I was younger, so I associate it with excitement and new learning. Do you have any special feelings about Autumn? What about other seasons?

Autumn is great. The last several years, early autumn has been travel time for us and is one of the best times to visit the canyon regions of Utah and other areas that are normally uncomfortable in the summer.

Right now, our temperatures feel like autumn for Arkansas. Yesterday only got up to 72°F!

We agree. We don’t travel much, but when we do we try to do it in the fall. The cooler weather, of course, and also fewer crowds, less hassle.

Do you have any plans for this year?

oh yes. in all this gushing.
    forgot my favorite month.
hands down. autumn. my whole life it’s been autumn. every little thing about it.

I knew who you meant. (I purposely didn’t use “whom”. Too awkward.) I love all pictures of Sammy, but this one would have been better if he had been willing to flash one of his radiant smiles.

Unfortunately he doesn’t smile when he has to wear a T-shirt.

Try again. I messed up the first two!

As you know, I love dogs too. You told me about Angus, so I’ve been reading about Bob and Sophie every day. Also about the six Siberian huskies at The Thundering Herd. KB at Rocking and Rolling in the Rockies posts almost every day, and the tall fellow at Daily Dose of Jack from time to time.

Sammy does not mind at all being called Cody; that is a good name for him. We have lots of names for our pups, but he is a pretty smart guy (gets him in trouble…) and can keep up with all of them. Montana sometimes has a bit more trouble. She is really funny. We will say things to the pups and Sammy always acts like he understands, while Montana will sometimes act like she understands and other times just looks at Sammy as if to say… “what did they say?”

      Love Sammy’s pics. 😀

Kendall’s dog was named Cody. I looked it up:
People (dogs) with this name have a deep inner desire for a stable, loving family or community, and a need to work with others and to be appreciated. There’s lots more if we look up Cody name.

I guess I like Spring and Autumn best – not too hot, not too cold. Spring probably has the edge in Sydney because it is less windy.

I LOVE those last two pictures of sammy!
especially the expression in the t-shirt. i know LOL is used too much. at least by me.
but i literally laughed right out loud when i saw it!
and how wonderful to hear from kaitlin here! a nice surprise!
as far as i’m concerned you could post at least a weekly pic of those two precious grandogs! i wouldn’t mind at all. LOL.

  6. Cathy in NZ says:

Well, it’s not Spring here in Auckland – although a few weeks ago it felt like Spring had Sprung and it was Early Summer…

We had a strange Autumn and it seems even Winter has been strange – usually the very cold period arrives in September when we are thinking more about Spring…

    Re-read that now I’m confused!

Today, is not in any season – in between: no sun, dull, dry, boring! Yesterday a goodly amount of sun, a little cold but not bad. Tomorrow: who knows!

    • Jean says:

I’ve been trying to translate your weather into ours, given the fact our seasons are the opposite. It was good mental exercise, but I can’t say I succeeded!

It rained a bit more today. Usually it starts petering out in August, and we’re happy to get it. The big question now is how much snow we’ll get this winter — none of the forecasters seem to be hazarding a guess. Probably a safe move, since they didn’t predict this rainy season.

  7. Rummuser says:

I love the monsoon. Have always done so ever since I can remember. I cannot have enough of it. Urmeela too did and we would do crazy things together in the monsoon like walking in the clouds and getting wet etc.
