As you can see, things have been worse.
A good Samaritan had his crew fix up the roads after the first flash flood, and it was clear the roads would continue to need more work after future rains. Some of the guys tried to talk Andy into buying his own equipment. He told them he had talked about that with his wife and she said,
- What are you going to do when it breaks down?
- I don’t like the idea of you working on heavy equipment alone up there, and
- You’re not going to do it.
That story was good for a laugh, but it wasn’t quite true. We both agreed if he had been twenty or thirty years younger it would have been fun for him to have his own backhoe. But given his age we had better pass. It was tempting, but we’re still happy with our decision.
What big choices have you had to make? How have they worked out?
No big choices, no small choices, life has just been flowing on. The biggest problem that I had to face was a leaking faucet. A phone call to the plumber fixed that in double quick time. Life is placid for me here Jean. I wish that I could have some of the adventures that the two of you are having there!
Yes, challenge adds spice to life — the trick is to have the right amount. At the moment that’s true for us.
my biggest choice 8 months ago was selling the wee blink bonnie and moving to the wren house!

and hearing them up there putting on a whole NEW roof knowing i didn’t have to pay for it . . . or worry about it . . . well . . . HEAVEN! 😀

Yes, I know. Leaking roofs aren’t nearly so bad when you know someone else will take care of them. 🙂
I agree about big machines. Accidents can happen even if one is careful. I’m glad that Andy agreed that it was more sensible to plan on hiring a youngster (relatively speaking) to do the work rather than investing in a machine and trying to do it himself. I’m also glad that Orlando loves doing the work. He’s had experience road building and maintenance, but it was mainly highways. He enjoys the new challenge. He does this one the side, on weekends and time off from his day job.
I’m working on a major semi-different, possibly semi-upheaval whereby I am downsizing all kinds of things.
What I finally decided on, to deal with it was to “look at where/when I acquired the object” and if it was truly something I needed or other… much of my stuff, is on the gift, find, other way of acquiring.
But also objects from a life I don’t necessarily do now – i.e. display items when at retail/markets; or things I had been I was with others. I even seem to have a few double items…
That’s a big job but it feels so good when one can get rid of things we no longer need. Good for you!

The big decision was to move out of my parents’ house and find a rental.
This was after my mother died and not wanting to put up with my father’s attitude.
We found a place that was affordable for us (something of a miracle on our incomes and close to Sydney), a walk to the beach, a bus stop outside the door, a walk to the shops. It is quite serendipitous or miraculous (depending on your belief system).
We knew the area we wanted and it was the first property we looked at on line in that area. We went to look at it and made an offer the same day. We heard this afternoon that our offer had been accepted. We sign the lease on Tuesday.
