Poor Starbucks

Sometimes it’s hard not to be dragged into a debate. Starbucks has been criticized by both pro- and anti-gun factions. The anti-gun people organized a Skip Starbuck’s Day, asking supporters to boycott Starbucks because it allowed customers to bring guns into its stores in states that allowed people to openly carry guns. Then the pro-gun advocates organized Starbucks Appreciation Days, where gun owners brought their guns, including rifles, into the stores.

So Howard Schultz, Starbucks CEO, wrote an open letter respectfully asking customers who aren’t law enforcement officers not to bring guns into the stores or into the open seating areas outside. Starbucks wants its customers to feel comfortable and relaxed, and some of them don’t feel comfortable when they see openly carried guns. Some people on both sides sympathize with Starbucks, others don’t. What do you think?

The US gun culture looks like lunacy to those of us in the rest of the world.

The “request” does little but stir the pot a bit, in my view, and make news for Starbucks. I don’t see the need for carrying handguns, whether it’s open or concealed carry, anywhere that I’m likely to go. (Since I’ve never been a fan of Starbucks, I’m not likely to go there 😉 )

I still feel sorry for Starbucks, even though I never go there.

I don’t drink coffee. Gives me the shakes. But then who needs caffeine to get the shakes when in a country where people can OPENLY carry guns? Let’s put it this way: If I sat opposite/next to someone displaying their ‘wares’ I will vouch for my action. Not by shooting the carrier.

One person who owns guns agrees with Starbucks. He says if someone came in with a rifle he would either duck under the table or head for the door.

the whole gun policy is way above my head…I’m damn scared of things to start with, so if I saw someone with one, I would outta of there, pronto.
