What a Mess

Two things:

The government shutdown —- A couple across from us in the dining car Tuesday (October 1st) had been traveling by train from Delaware. They were on their way to the Grand Canyon, which would be closed. Hopefully there was something in the area to see, but it was a long trip only to be shut out.

Malware — For curiosity yesterday I checked statcounter.com to see where some of my readers were located. One was from the Russian Federation and he was linking to cheerfulmonk.com/page/25 — which didn’t sound like a legitimate link. When I clicked on it I received a message that it was an attack page. So I spent most of the evening talking to Hostmonster (my hosting service) and SiteLock — the website security firm Hostmonster uses. For $39.99 a year I signed up for their service that scans for malware every day and supposedly removes it. It says there were four posts in April 2009 that had problems, so i just removed them, and all links to them, myself. Apparently Google knew about them August 8th but said they hadn’t harmed visitors to the site. The fellow I talked to at SiteLock suggested I buy a firewall, for “only” $49 a month. I’m afraid not. I love the looks of this site, but if I can’t take care of the problems myself I’ll move to wordpress.com and settle for a more generic look.

I hope your day was less eventful!

Our Central Government, the equivalent of your Federal Government has been shut down for the past four years. We have managed very well without their governance! We call it Ram Bharosey meaning Trust in Lord Ram.

Mine was very eventful in that I was out on a date this morning and met a very charming lady for elevenses. I followed that tryst with a spot of shopping in the city and came home for a delicious lunch.

E -Gad Jean, what a mess. Your time & your money taken. I had no idea that a blog was THAT much trouble. So sorry. 🙁

I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it — I was more relaxed and focused. I was hoping to get to bed relatively early (for me). Instead I was up until 4:30 am. I am learning a lot, though. And that always helps when trying to sort the good information from the garbage when dealing with support people.

OK what you enjoyed is accomplishing it & getting it DONE. Tom’s mother taught him, “Do it & be done with it.”

Except it’s not done yet — see tomorrow’s post. The best I can do is to be happy I’m handling it well. That works. 🙂

It’s Saturday evening here…today only slightly eventful, mostly went according to plan.

Even though, it might seem odd go into University on the w/end it’s actually the best time, there are no classes or lots of noise AND my scheduled space is nearly always empty. The young fellows don’t do study over the w/end (well not at this time)…and get to have whichever computer, desk and general space to myself.

There quite a lot of students on elsewhere site but they are busy studying or something…

I now only have to flesh out a few things before handing in my proposal for the research essay – all doable at home, because all of that stuff is in e-books. Due on Tuesday at 4pm!

So I hope to be out in the garden/yard doing this and that tomorrow, depending on whether the weather plays nice; do some art-making – over the next 2 days.

I would go in on a Saturday too. It sounds as if you’ll get a nice break, get a chance to do other things. That sounds like a great schedule, thanks to your planning ahead!

BHB, I keep going on dates all the time. Mostly platonic. My dates are all inevitablty charming. Otherwise what is the point in dating? This charming lady for elevenses is different. Both of us are beyond the dating age!

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, and for old Anglophiles like me, elevenses (pronunciation: /??l?v?nz?z/) is a snack that is similar to afternoon tea, but eaten in the morning. It is generally less savoury than brunch, and might consist of some cake or biscuits with a cup of coffee or tea. The name refers to the time of day that it is taken: around 11 am. (Wikipedia)
