The Dark Side of Creativity?

In America we think creativity is a great thing — we need to foster it if we’re going to have the innovations needed to keep our economy strong. The Dark Side of Creativity points out that because creative people think outside the box they may be less apt to follow rules/more apt to be dishonest.

All I can say is if that’s true, we have a lot of creative people in the world. The news is continually reporting on scams, hackers, theft, etc. Last night’s local paper is a great example. The local supermarket gives fuel points — one for every dollar their rewards shoppers spend — that give discounts on gasoline. Every 100 fuel points gives the user ten cents off per gallon. Someone has already figured out a way to steal those points.

Yes, creativity isn’t dead, and we don’t always like the results.

Very simple to do the fuel point scam. (Won’t tell you how.) MAYBE if they have a record of that sale, they could see what credit card was used.

I had them block/take off our alternative ID since we didn’t use it anyway. I was wondering if they had enough details of transactions to figure out who was doing it. The main thing is it’s easy to protect ourselves.

Creativity can be used to dubious ends.

The dark side of the creative experience I think is its obsessiveness.

Just about anything can be used for dubious ends. People are good at that.

I can get hooked by problems I’m solving/projects I’m working on, but then I take a break. Total immersion is fun and healthy I think, if we don’t do it all the time.

everyone is creative – for one reason or another – you just need to tap into that energy in as positive way – use it for the good…

but unfortunately there are bad eggs in the world – who create a different type of “way” – positive they are doing themselves greatness – but in hindsight not the general world…
