No Great Mystery

When Andy was eating lunch yesterday he saw a flash of light out of the corner of his eye and heard a loud BOOM! He looked over and saw bark falling from the tall tree by the shed.

There’s no great mystery about what happened.

I’m glad I wasn’t there! We left those dead trees around the house and shed to act as lightning rods. We didn’t want the structures to be the highest points.

Glad it wasn’t Andy instead of the tree.

  3. Wow, too close for comfort! It’s good to know that that lightening doesn’t strike twice in the same place… or does it? 😉

I’ve heard that’s just a myth, and we don’t mind if the dead trees get hit. That’s why we left them. Better them than the house and shed.

It’s a shock when it happens for sure! Very glad the cabin wasn’t damaged, but the trees do a good job at conducting.
Years ago, I was in the kitchen, washing dishes and looking out the window into the forest, when I heard an (almost) sonic boom, saw a flash and, for a few long seconds, a “fireball” burned in the fork of a tree not far from our house. I’ll never forget that experience – exhilarating and frightening at the same time. Adrenaline rush 🙂

do you think that you should top some of them, hate if a particularly solid dead tree took out the mechanics of something needed at the shed…

    • Jean says:

Andy removed any tree that could possibly fall on the house. Around the shed he removed the trees that could most likely have fallen on it. He figures he has drastically reduced the odds.
