Who Would Have Guessed?

turbotax
On the way back from the airport we stopped at Sam’s Club in Santa Fe to pick up some items. They offered TurboTax with a $15 discount, so we bought one.

It was an interesting transaction. We picked up an empty box from the display and gave to the cashier at checkout. She rang it up and said we needed to take our receipt to Member Services to get the real product. That made sense, and we weren’t surprised.

What did surprise us is the woman at Member Services didn’t have TurboTax readily available. She had to call someone to unlock the cabinet where the product was stored. She also had to sign the log book saying she had sold one. When we asked about it she said a lot of them had been stolen. Who would have guessed TurboTax was such a target for thieves?

Have you ever had an experience like this?

I had to google Turbo Tax to understand what it is!

No, I haven’t ever bought an empty box to be exchanged for a sealed one in any shop. I have of course seen prototypes on display based on which you choose a model but at the time of the actual purchase, one pays for a seal unbroken package.

No, I have never had such an experience.
and… I used Turbo Tax last year for the first time.
I must say it was incredibly easy for me but then again I’m only one person with one paycheck and really nothing to claim or add or whatever.
I just went to their website and it was free to use for my Federal and $15. for my State.
The reason it was free is because I’m below the annual wage guideline.
I guess sometimes there’s perks to not making much money.
    🙂 🙂

I’ve purchased a number of items where they had to go to a locked area to get the product, including software.

I’ve used TurboTax for quite a few years now. The year after I retired was really complicated, so, for the first time ever, I went to an accountant. However, I checked his work using TurboTax. After completing the taxes, I always go back through the forms generated by the tax software to do a sanity check.

Since I didn’t work at all in 2014, this will be the first time in 46 years that I won’t file a W2 (Wage and Tax Statement).

Yay, retirement! Andy uses TurboTax and I do the taxes by hand. It’s a good check and we disagree often enough — usually by small amounts — that it’s a good check. It’s easy to put things in wrong in TurboTax too. And we mostly do the same things every year, so it’s no big deal to do them.

    LOLOL!
i’m with cindi. i’m also below the line.
they don’t tax my widow’s benefits. they do tax my pension.
they take out $312 each year. then after i do my taxes . . . they refund it to me.
i keep doing it simply because if the tax laws ever change i don’t want to OWE at the end of the year.
silly i guess. but it works for me! now that i don’t own a home i can even use the simple form. or EZ i guess it’s called. it’s WONDERFUL!

    • Jean says:

Yes, that EZ form is indeed wonderful. Yay, it and yay, tammy!

My new yay, tammy! T-shirt came. Remember they sent the wrong size for the first one, so they replaced it free of charge and said I could keep the first one. That’s the one BHB has. So there’s two of us yaying. 😀

Like Rummuser, I had google TurboTax as well. I don’t know how tax returns are dealt with here, as I’m not required to do one…

I guess there is software of similar nature though…
