Doing the Best We Can

Andy says he remembers some saying like,

Don’t cast your seed upon rocky soil.

But considering the fire burned off most of the organic matter, we’re ignoring that advice. We’re sticking with,

Do the best you can with what you’ve got left.

Some of the grass he sowed the past couple of years is starting to come up again.

3-22-15-Grass-1

And he tossed out more seeds during the recent rainy days. We figure every little bit helps. The land is no place for perfectionists. 🙂

“A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.”

    ~Greek Proverb.

Please tell him that I salute him.

    • Jean says:

Great quote. I will tell him.

I’m not sure our society is growing great, but at least he is staying physically and mentally healthy.

    as do I.
he’s a man of the land.
and they always have patience. people who cherish the outdoors. and want to be near it. it just goes with the territory i think.
it has its own beauty there. coming back from that terrible fire.
it is thriving in its own way!

    • Jean says:

Yes, one reason we decided to stay here instead of moving on is wanted to see how the land revived. We may not have much new vegetation, but we treasure it.

Some areas are more lush, of course — the area around the house has always had sparse soil. In fact, last year because of all the seeds Andy scattered, the area in front of the house had more growth than it did before the fire. Exciting stuff!

    Both sayings are great.
I’m trying to do the best with what I have left, but it’s hard because I’m a want-a-be perfectionist.

    • bikehikebabe says:

I mean I AM a perfectionist & it’s too hard to make PERFECT anymore. 🙁
But I “do the best with what I have left”. 😀

I like the Doing the Best with What you Got.
    I’m doing the same here
and besides, Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder.
    🙂

    • Jean says:

I love the phrase too. 🙂 It’s non-judmental and encouraging. I tend to steer clear of judgmental people who like to try to put other people down.

and of course my favourite is : it depends

one of my friends said “just go with the flow, if you need a couple of nanna naps just take them”

so yesterday after two nanna naps I stayed up a little later because I had the urge to splash some paint around. I don’t usually do that as the lighting in my workroom isn’t all that crash hot so I opened up another door and had the light streaming in from there…

I got up this morning & I was faced with a pleasing view – so that was nice result.
