Yay, Play!

Play is essential for health. In this sense, play is defined as any activity which tends to produce the emotions of joy or the experience we call having fun. So each person must define play for himself. Our energy and our will to live are increased by play. Play improves the quality of life and makes it richer. It lifts us out of despair and increases our wish to live. It increases the energy needed to mobilize the will to live as well.
— O. Carl Simonton, M.D.

How do you like to play? This past week mine has been mostly watching Frasier, but my energy is starting to come back, so I’m hoping to start being a bit more active.

I have a lot of housework to do, and my first priority is to figure out a way of enjoying the process. Wish me luck! The apartment is still a shambles. I keep thinking of tammy, who would never ever have this problem! Hopefully someday a little bit of her minimalism will rub off on me.

I go to or watch movies at home, read, cook and solve crossword puzzles. I did all of them today!

I think most of my play nowadays involves the internet – especially blogging and witty banter on Facebook. Everyday life doesn’t involve a lot of play, since it’s mainly work and domestic chores, but I do read and listen to music, which is play of a sort I guess.

    LOL!
    i don’t know. whenever i clean… you’d be surprised. i get everything out.
even though it’s not much it can look daunting.
one time bob came home in the middle of the day… to find each room all askew…
he said “what’s going on? are we moving?” LOLOLOL!
i told him not to worry. it would all be in order when he got home.
i don’t mean i do it often. but sometimes. i find that fun. a sort of play i guess.
otherwise… my ‘play’ is simply doing just as i want to do… all day long!
the best kind of play there is. then … everything becomes play.
i’m SO GLAD you’re feeling better! XOXO? and there’s that secret question mark.:)

You’re better than I am with putting everything back in order by the end of the day! But I do understand getting things out so we can see what to toss and what to reorganize. We need to have a big picture of what we have to deal with. And it can be fun when we’re in the right mood.

Also we get to enjoy the results for a long time. 🙂

I do all kinds of playful things…in no particular order & I’m sure to leave something out:

art-making, surfing the net, walking around town/about, chatting to all kinds of people (some initiated by the other) – yesterday a young woman was telling me she is doing a PhD in the different kinds of fungi in the world…today it was one of my b/friends turning up with my Easter Eggs which are not just left on the bench but placed in odd places – I’ve found them all, ate one (testing it you see) – reading for pleasure and for interest, yesterday picked up 8 ordered books from the library (wasn’t going to bring them all home in one hit but a couple very small, very thin)! There are already at least 5 others here… so a lot of reading to completed.

eating gooey cakes – the kind where the cream oozes out – eating icecreams, had to try out a new flavour today pineapple crush with chocolate topped with one of my favourites at the moment mint and chocolate, yummy!

    doing absolutely nothing…
