Gus and Georgie

As I’ve said before, one of my favorite bloggers is Kim over at Life at Golden Pines. She rescues senior dogs to give them a good quality of life in their remaining time. One of those dogs is Gus:

Gus

[Gus has] been with us for just shy of 10 months now, a milestone considering there were some who never thought we’d see one month. I’ve decided that each day with Gus is a milestone, and we’re grateful for these “days of grace” with him. Despite eating twice as much as the other dogs, Gus is noticeably thinner than he has ever been because of the loss of muscle mass. He has increasingly more difficulty getting around than before, and needs us to help him more. A symptom that the degenerative myleopathy (DM) is progressing. But Gus keeps trying and there is no doubt he’s just as happy as he was the first day he came to us. That’s all that matters.

Amen to that!

Kim’s newest addition is Georgie, who has settled in nicely this past week.

Georgie

The part that warms my heart the most is that Gus has a new buddy.

Georgie-and-Gus

As usual, bless you, Kim!

We need a million more Kims.

  2. Thank-you for your kind post, thoughtful words of friendship and support. Gus and Georgie are two gentlemen, and (as you know) I love having them as part of our household; it’s truly an honor to get to know them, and care for them for however long they’re with us — Just as with the other seniors that come to us.

Thank-you again! I hope YOU are doing well, and your week is off to a good start, your kind words have made mine better!! 🙂 Take care!

I started following Kim’s blog after discovering it through a post by Tammy.
She is truly a special person. Rescuing seniors is so hard emotionally, to say nothing of all the additional aches and illnesses that come with age which can make it hard financially too. Also, with big dogs, it can be very physically demanding too. My hat is off to her.
Old dogs have a special place in my heart and it really breaks mine when owners cast them aside when these dogs need them most. Thank God for Kim.
That last photo with Gus and Georgie just has me in tears.
    Grateful and happy tears.

Yes, that picture is one of the most heart-warming I have ever seen. I’m much more attracted to older dogs than I am to puppies. No doubt because I’m so old myself. 😉

That picture is heartwarming and my thanks go to Kim for the work she does. Rolling Dog Farm is another such place, with the couple that founded it taking in blind and deaf dogs as well as those with other disabilities. Knowing of such people helps balance out all the bad news we hear.
