Clothes, Old and New

One of the great things about being retired is we don’t have to dress to meet other people’s expectations — not that Andy ever did! The last piece of new clothing I bought was this T-shirt I’ve already written about:

I cheerfully admit I didn’t need it, but it’s still fun to have, and I wear it when I need a reminder.

How do you feel about clothes? What was the last item you bought? Do any items lift your spirits or make you feel especially comfortable?

I hardly buy clothes as I have so many despite junking a great deal that I don’t really need new ones. Since I am mostly at home, I wear a lungi and a singlet or a t-shirt and Indian comfortable clothes pajamas and kurtas to go out. I still need to cull some clothes, which I will do one of these days when the mood takes me.

I got rid of most of the clothes I never wore, but occasionally I still find an item or two. It’s easy enough to find them a new home.

I’m normally a tee shirt and jeans — or, in the warm months, shorts — person. My favorite tees are from Duluth Trading Company because of their extra-long length, especially in the back.

The last clothing items I bought were business casual clothes for work.

    • Jean says:

Andy occasionally buys things from Duluth, but not shirts. I’m glad you can dress casually at work, even if not t-shirts and jeans.

Even with being “allowed” to dress in business casual, some instructors were reminded on Monday what the requirement is, including that business casual means that shirts tucked in. 😉

I made the comment,”At least we’re not having to go back to wearing ties when we teach.”

Most of the instructors now in the department didn’t even know that it was ever a requirement. 😉

I’m not a clothes horse at all.
I do need to buy some capris for work pretty soon as my jeans will be too warm to wear.
I almost bought a sweatshirt the other day with an illustration of a dog on it and the quote “There is no such thing as JUST a dog.” 🙂
There are several T-shirts etc. from this company that I would like to get.

I’m happiest in something soft and comfortable. In fact I have a particular T-shirt that I call my “funeral shirt” because I want to be wearing that, my gardening shorts and my flip-flops for my “viewing”. LOL! My step-mom was horrified that I’ve even thought about it but it’s super soft from so many washings and has a Golden Retriever print on the front and it reminds me of my dog Maddie that I had so many years ago.
I do have a few more appropriate proper clothes for more civilized gatherings but I always can not wait to get home and change.
I LOVE your t-shirt! 🙂 🙂 🙂 and it makes me smile that you bought it!
    xoxo

i have no appropriate clothes for any function requiring appropriate clothes! LOL.
i don’t go to those functions anymore. i quite going to funerals years ago.
but i might go to cindi’s. just so she could have the last laugh! 😀
of course that will be when we’re both about 100.
i live in shorts and t-shirts here in the wren house in summer… and fleece pants and fleece hoodies in the winter. i like to keep it cool. as in temperature. not cool dude!
when i go out with the marine to eat i wear simple little tops and capris and sandals or flip flops. he HATES flip flops. i wear them anyway. mine are pretty. and i’m for comfort. 😀

    • tammy j says:

      i quite going to funerals?
yes. i quite quit going a long time ago. would rather remember people alive.

I gave away all of my good dresses and skirts a long time ago. I did by a camel jacket you can partially see it in my gravatar) to somewhat dress up my navy slacks if I have to go to something slightly formal. I bought it for Kaitlin’s wedding in 2008 and can’t remember if I’ve worn it since. 🙂

I’m very dull with clothes. Polos and chinos in blue.

  6. Years ago I used to buy a new outfit a week. But since I’ve moved to “the country” I’m all about the “classic comfort.” Even at work, I don’t wear scrubs, just a pair of nice slacks, and t-shirt or polo under my lab jacket. It works for me. And as far as the last thing I bought, it was a comfy pair of shoes. 🙂

I LOVE your t-shirt by the way, wear it proudly!!

I can’t remember when I bought outer wear but I had to have other under things last year! I was going to get some sox, then at Xmas 2 pairs came via some Santa child…

I do however have a longish ‘cover-all’ that is a funny sort of green, maybe like over cooked cabbage with purple/deep ruby abstract flowers on it. I wear it usually to cover a multitude of sins underneath.

Well I have no idea where I got it, I wax/wane on it but back last year I reinstated it for autumn/winter/early spring wear!

I have so many compliments about it… from all kinds of people in all walks of life. I remember once one of the young 20/something male at Uni said “oh you’ve got that gorgeous top on again…” I was somewhat stunned! Then one day when I was at the gov’t benefit office; the case manager at the next desk – got up – came over and said “please stand up!” I did reluctantly and she then said to everyone in earshot “look at this to top, isn’t it just gorgeous” – I wanted the floor to swallow me up!

And always when complimented by a woman, they WANT to KNOW where I bought it…

    • tammy j says:

      OH!!! sounds lovely!
pictures please! on your blog? someday? 😀

    • Jean says:

I would love to see a picture of it, too! ♥ ♥ ♥

    • Cathy in NZ says:

I thought you would want a picture!
      “Some day” yes…

Yesterday I threw it over my work/home clothes and went to get my hair done, a buzz cut to be precise AND whilst the hairdresser was put on the collar/cape affair she said “love the top, the colours…” she went away to the desk and when she came back she said “now I will cover it up…” I explained to her about it being old and just right to cover a multitude of sins and how it attracts all kinds of age groups to comment!

    • Jean says:

That is so cool. We really do want to see a picture! 🙂
