Yay, Mistakes!

This reminds me of the Zen master, Dogen. When asked how he achieved enlightenment, he said,

It was easy. Just one mistake after another.

It also reminds me of my favorite fortune:

You have a great capacity for learning from your mistakes. You will learn a great deal today.

I love being retired so I can experiment and see what works and what doesn’t. Do you get to try new things and learn a lot too?

I love being retired, period. I let the others in my life make all the mistakes. I sit quietly doing nothing, the spring comes and the grass grows by itself.

As usual, different people like different things. The main thing is we’re retired — we get to choose what we do!

    ha!
    ditto rummy’s comment! 🙂
i don’t seem to work at anything… but the house is clean… there’s food in the pantry… i’m challenged by what i read and the documentaries i watch.
i’m learning more now than i EVER did when in school!
    i just love pickels cartoons.

    • tammy j says:

i ALWAYS spell pickels wrong. it’s pickles.
maybe i should go back to school! LOLOL.

    • Jean says:

If your house is clean, you do more than I do, I’m afraid! I do putter around and clean a bit when the mood strikes, though, and Rummuser has someone else do his, and that works, too.

I don’t make mistakes, I just fall short of expectations a little.

    • Jean says:

I actually don’t think in terms of mistakes much either. I like the NLP (NeuroLinguistic Programming) approach: What do you want? Is what you’re doing getting you closer to what you want? If not, try something else. Depending on what you want some things work better than others.

  4. Cathy in NZ says:

some of my mistakes go unnoticed whilst others require attention from all kinds of people – the amount who do similar mistakes are astounding…

they say “been there, done that and got the badge…”

  5. I can’t retire.

    I am not tired yet.

But I do love to experiment. Some of them work and some don’t. Live and learn, or is it learn and live?

    Either way, it is fun

  6. Cindi says:

I think that I want to try new things but I tend to not like change so that presents a problem.
But I did try something new on Monday.
I decided to stop asking for help and just told people at my workplace that I needed a day off and they needed to cover it and for THEM to figure it out.
    It felt good.
And as far as making mistakes? I have made so many in my lifetime that I am unable to count them but I do think that I have learned plenty.

    • Jean says:

Good for you! If you take responsibility for everything you let everyone else off the hook. And you’re not doing them a favor in the long run if you hurt your health.
