It’s easy to find examples of how some humans pervert their religion to justify bigotry and cruelty. So it’s refreshing to see this Washington Post article: Muslim charities raise nearly $45,000 to rebuild burned-down black churches.
Over the past few weeks several mainly-black churches in the South have burned down. Some seem to have been accidents, others victims of arson, but whatever the reason they need to be rebuilt. So three Muslim charities have started a Respond With Love campaign to help fund the effort. The campaign organizers have said,
It’s Ramadan and we are experiencing firsthand the beauty and sanctity of our mosques during this holy month. ALL houses of worship are sanctuaries — a place where all should feel safe, a place we can seek refuge when the world is too much to bear. We want for others what we want for ourselves: the right to worship without intimidation, the right to safety and the right to property.
