Good for Lego

Lego has started a 15-year research project to find an eco-friendly material for its now-plastic building blocks:

Today, the LEGO Group announces a significant investment of DKK 1 billion [~$150 million] dedicated to research, development and implementation of new, sustainable, raw materials to manufacture LEGO® elements as well as packaging materials.

Jørgen Vig Knudstorp, CEO and President of the LEGO Group, says:
“This is a major step for the LEGO Group on our way towards achieving our 2030 ambition on sustainable materials. We have already taken important steps to reduce our carbon footprint and leave a positive impact on the planet by reducing the packaging size, by introducing FSC certified packaging and through our investment in an offshore wind farm. Now we are accelerating our focus on materials.”

Good for Lego!

I am from the Mecano generation and never did get involved in Lego. Ranjan did not have any interest in either as he was more interested in reading.

This kind of announcements are now getting to be quite regular and I hope that before it is too late, we will save the earth.

I’ve never seen a Lego set, but I know they’re popular. It is encouraging that some companies are trying to be responsible citizens.

interesting with so many on-line games that a bricks/mortar game continues to intrigue. I never had these things as a child…probably because there was no little brother in the household at the time!

We didn’t have things like that either when I was a kid. Andy and Kaitlin built some things when she was young, but not with Legos or the equivalent.
