The CECIL Animal Trophies Act

If you’re upset by the dentist wounding Cecil the lion with a bow and arrow — after Cecil had been lured off a national park with food — and then following the wounded lion for two days to kill and decapitate him, you might want to urge your senators to support this bill:

In swift response to Cecil’s tragic death, the Conserving Ecosystems by Ceasing the Importation of Large (CECIL) Animal Trophies Act (S. 1918) has been introduced in the US Senate ….. The CECIL Animal Trophies Act would make it illegal to import the carcass or part of an animal from a species—such as an African lion—that is being considered for listing under the Endangered Species Act, in order to discourage trophy hunters from shooting these animals.

I’m happy there’s something constructive I can do. Click here if you want an easy way to contact your senators about this bill.

A very good move. For once something quick and useful is being legislated on while the topic is still hot.

    thank you monk.
i followed the link and left a personal message as well for my legislators.
surely this will start to change things.
the coward also wanted to then kill the biggest elephant he could find.
apparently one big enough to suit him was not produced.
at least signing this petition has helped a bit in the helplessness and rage i feel.
i do not understand why the police have not FOUND this scumbag and made him face his charges. i hope he is extradited. but i doubt he will be.
it will eventually all blow over and i bet he’s counting on that.

I imagine others will think twice before trying something like this in the future. Some airlines are refusing to transport the trophies, which should help too.
