Yay, Michigan!

I received an email from Montana early yesterday morning as she, Sammy, Kaitlin, and Torben were on the road to Ann Arbor for the football game. She included this picture and message:

10-10-15-Montana-off-to-the-football-game

Big game today…I am very excited.

As well she might be. Michigan won against Northwestern 38-0. They lost their first game of the season to Utah, but now have won the next five games, the last three being shutouts.

Michigan-scores

Michigan has a new coach, Jim Harbaugh, and everyone expected that the team would do a lot better than it has in the past few years, but no one expected them to do this well so soon:

WHAT WE’LL BE TALKING ABOUT: Michigan and Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh and Michigan. It was easy to foresee Michigan returning to national relevance under the coach who’s won big everywhere he’s been β€” but not this quickly.
USA Today

Writers might run out of superlatives for head coach Jim Harbaugh and defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin throughout the upcoming week. The defense recorded its third consecutive shutout, which hadn’t happened at the program in 35 years. Harbaugh has turned Michigan into a team that nobody looks forward to playing. Already.
The Bleacher Report

They play Michigan State next weekend, so they may not win then, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed. Yay, Michigan!

I agree. You can never get too cocky. I love the song. I still remember learning and singing it in the sixth grade. It still warms my heart. πŸ™‚

Everything else is all Greek to me.

The details don’t matter, except the team is doing better so much faster than anyone guessed.

I agree with you about Montana. πŸ™‚

we don’t have much in the way of “college sports” of note but many young people begin in a sport and work there way up through the grades, linked to teams that might be via their school or maybe more their place of residence…or similar. Some later on get invited to be part of other teams, seems mainly when you’ve a teenager…

I don’t think we have many scholarships that link to a college just for sport although many of our best sportspeople have gone to colleges overseas…or moved in main circles away from home…

Here college football is important for school spirit. In the early days one college said football had nothing to do with education, but it had to change its mind when kids went to other schools.
