Yay, Target!

Target-Halloween-Ad

This Target ad brought tears to a mother’s eyes. Her five-year-old daughter has prosthetics on both legs and needs crutches to make up for her lack of lower body strength. The ad showing the girl in crutches dressed as the daughter’s favorite Disney character makes crutches seem normal. As the mother says,

We work very, very hard to make sure that her little corner of the world is anything but lonely and void of other children with similar abilities. But as far as media is concerned — there is a vast emptiness of children with whom she can relate. A Target ad with one precious little girl dressed as Elsa met her where she was and made the world a little more beautiful and friendly.
A mom’s post about a Halloween costume is gong viral on Facebook. Thank you, Target.

Yes, thank you, Target!

    how wonderful of target.

It makes you realise how many ads assume perfect physical health and appearance and conveniently forget about all those kids (and adults) who don’t fit into that ideal category. Good for Target.

    I do love Target.
    I did before
    but now, even more.

It would be nice if more companies tried it.

companies don’t do “disabilities” well – we are a minority – sometimes we might have token input but that’s about it…

some company premises don’t understand that some disabilities don’t do stairs or very tight fitting rooms – although some new buildings have that within their code – but as to shop fittings it doesn’t seem to apply

think of food markets “yep, we have the correct shelving – THEN add a display at the end that runs over into the aisles” 🙁
