It’s come a long way since it was burned to the ground June 26, 2011.

It didn’t stay down long, here’s a picture of it less than three months later.

Yay, little lilac!

Looks great. We only see lilacs here if it has been a colder than normal winter, which it was not this year.

    • Jean says:

That’s interesting — I hadn’t realized they needed the cold. In general Arkansas is a lot more lush than New Mexico.

    • Mike says:

Arkansas is greener and more lush than almost every place west of here. This year, with all of the rain that we’ve had, everything is growing like crazy and it’s green, green, green. My aunt, who has lived in west Nebraska (grass covered sandhills) all of her live, was down here a few year back for the funeral of her brother-in-law and we had the chance to visit for a few hours. She talked about how overwhelming all the trees and all the green was.

    • Jean says:

We went to Arkansas in May, 2008, mainly to see all of your greenery. 🙂

    Somethings seem to have thrived!

    • Jean says:

Yes. It was heartening. On our first trip up there after the fire, when we had to be escorted in, I took numerous pictures of anything that was starting to sprout, anything to break the feeling of desolation.

  3. Audra E says:

Are lilacs another one of the plants that are happy with the ash-fertilizer after a fire?
    What a beauty!

    • Jean says:

Apparently so. We were happy because they and the birch tree came from Missoula. A lot of plants are thriving now, but not the tomatoes or the poor limber pine.

  4. Wonder if it is fragrant—some are more so than others. I love the color! Here, we have three types, dark purple, light (like yours) and white. They are all lovely.

    • Jean says:

I like the dark purple contrasted with the white best, but these are very fragrant and they came from Andy’s childhood home.
