Desire and Hunger

I laughed when I read this comic, probably because I like Duncan, the dog. Does anyone else think it’s funny?

What about this cartoon?

I can easily understand why they might choose to talk with the dog rather than with his human servant — I thought that part was funny. But I don’t understand the reference to extermination. Can anyone explain?

Having a dog at home, I can understand the first cartoon and laugh too. The second one is funny too but I too am stumped for the extermination bit.

Kaitlin thinks maybe they were going to annihilate the human race but decided not to after talking to the dog. It would have been a lot stronger for me if the cartoonist had left out the text box about extermination.

    kaitlin is probably right.
ever notice how (other than ET) there are never any ‘friendly’ aliens portrayed.
they’re always ready to exterminate us!
    but I loved the cartoons!

  3. I guess that’s why we all loved ET. There is enough to scare us within the human race, without giving the aliens much thought!

Looks to me like the ray gun on the spaceship is pointed at the human with an alien prepared to shoot when the other alien says talk to the dog since it looks like the dog has the power. But, I had to look closer to figure that out–not obvious. And I may not be right even after that closer look. I agree it was funnier without that text box. As all creative people know, sometimes we don’t stop soon enough.

Yes. The line about the poopy bag would have been more than enough. I’m still chuckling about that. 🙂

yep, the extermination text was not necessary…especially since that has confused the joke
