Rolling Coal

There is a new menace on America’s roads: diesel truck drivers who soup up their engines and remove their emissions controls to “roll coal,” or belch black smoke, at pedestrians, cyclists and unsuspecting Prius drivers.

It’s illegal, of course, but up until now the rules haven’t been enforced. That’s starting to change in some states as the problem gets worse.

Yuck! Just another example that not everyone shares our values.

That’s outrageous. We have a diesel truck and the exhaust is clear. On occasion, if I accelerate faster than normal, I leave a little bit of smoke behind, but I could never drive something that smoked like those idiot’s trucks do.

They spend money to fix up their trucks, and they use a lot of fuel to make the smoke. It reminds me of the trucks fixed up to be extra noisy. We have one of those in our apartment complex. Some people go out of their way to be obnoxious.

you’ve got to be kidding me.
so far I haven’t seen it here. I did see one semi on the highway once with that.
I thought something was wrong with his truck. and there he was doing it on purpose!
as much talk as there is about air pollution and they’re stupid enough to think that’s cool.
    it boggles the mind.
too bad one can’t stop up the tail pipe and give them a taste of their own medicine inside their cab!

This is the height of meanness. I hope that the authorities will do what needs to be done to stop this madness.

    • Jean says:

It’s a different form of vandalism. But one that’s done in plain sight so the authorities can stop it if they want to. One suggestion is to take away their driver’s license if they don’t stop.

  4. Mean and stupid! Who are these people? They must be horribly bored to think up these ways to annoy people. I pity them!

    • Jean says:

Some people are just that way. Part of the variety of human experience. In the old days before smoking was outlawed in public places I saw guys blow smoke in the face of people who were bothered by cigarette smoke.

agree with everyone – and like Tammy haven’t seen that type of thing here…we have boy racers, burning up the rubber but that are usually found out quickly by cops who put a stop to it all…

That’s totally bizarre. Real up-yours anti-social behaviour. Fortunately not a Northern Ireland trend. Of course as we all know, car manufacturers themselves have been making high-pollution cars but hiding the fact with fiddled emissions figures.
