Near Misses

Andy came home the other night and said, “It’s fall!” He wasn’t talking about the weather or the leaves, he was talking about the new trees that have fallen down.

So far his little evergreens have survived being massacred. This one lost a branch, notice the white spot on the trunk.

The other ones had near misses, but were unscathed.

Fingers crossed that they continue to have good luck.

Why does this happen? Don’t the roots go down deep enough?

    bless andy.
    replenishing that fire devastated forest!
even if it’s just a few little pine trees at a time.
    they will make it!

We’ll have to see. Kaitlin pointed out the reason they survived was they were so small. Not very big targets. Anyway, so far, so good. Fingers crossed!

Actually Andy didn’t buy them. They were a gift from Beate and Tim, who also planted most of them in addition to the Limber pine. They planted about a thousand on their property, and about 200 have survived so far.

  3. I’m cheering for the new trees! Hope they make it! There is nothing like new growth to give us hope!

’em little buggers are lucky indeed…they have been placed by the hand is they were meant to survive, and with the odds of the larger older dead trees having the good foresight to avoid drifting over the crushing ’em…
