We didn’t send cards this year, but we did send a Christmas letter — seven copies by mail and a lot more via email.

What about you?

I clicked on the link to your Christmas Letter and got, thanks for the smile, a blank pdf page. Thanks all the same. “It’s the thought that counts” – if ever I was slightly baffled and very suspicious of a saying it’s that one.

Despite the fact that I write reams every day, all year round, I rarely write Christmas cards. Just as well because, as only the English can (you can’t beat this country in efficiency stakes), Royal Mail has gone on strike. If my mother’s card doesn’t arrive here in time I don’t know who’ll be more devastated: Her or me.

So, yes, I rarely write cards on any occasion. HOWEVER, the phone is my friend. I can, and do, spend hours on the phone. A habit early formed when my youngest uncle gave me a house phone for Christmas. I was three and a bit. I was thrilled. Thrilled and thrilled. I was also in awe how only children can be. There I was phoning my grandmother, in the next room, and spoke to her through a LINE. Life doesn’t come more wonderous than that.

    Seasons greetings,
    Ursula

I don’t know why the link didn’t work for you, I have no problem with it. Just another of the mysteries of the universe. I emailed you a copy.

The pdf opened fine for me. It’s obvious that Andy has a lot time and effort invested in the property and the solar system control and optimization. I particularly like his observations on the ubiquitous and invisible they and, specifically, “governments are tax collecting organizations, not service providing organizations.”

    Merry Christmas!!!

We send loads of Christmas cards because we still think it’s a good way of keeping in touch with people. Funny how cards are still very popular and e-cards never really caught on.

No, Ursula’s wrong, there isn’t a Royal Mail strike, only a Post Office strike. Christmas cards are still being delivered.

I read your Christmas mail and responded. I don’t send cards for any festival, birthdays etc. I try and personally talk to people at least by telephone failing which, I send emails.

Oh! Hang on… I’ll be right back.

    I’m back! Lol!
    Thank you for the pdf.
Just reading Andy’s part makes me tired for him!
I’m in awe at all he does.
I remember your photo that you included from the blog.
    Very cute.

Personally, I sometimes send Christmas cards but time got away from me this year.
When I do though, it’s always the ones that are postcards with a photo of something like my handsome Blue. 😀 😀
I enjoy receiving cards like that too. I think they are fun.
Or a card with a letter is nice.
    Or a very pretty card.
But what annoys me to no end (and I just received such a card) are plain generic cards with a bland or typical holiday greeting.
This card that I received just had the couples name hurried scratched at the bottom. I mean seriously, why waste a stamp? And why add to my paper clutter? Ugh. Truly it was the most boring thing with photo of a piece of holly on the front.
it seems to be an empty gesture to me.
    I’d rather have nothing.
But at least it wasn’t the extreme opposite, which would be a phone call!
I HATE talking on the phone! Lol!
    Anyway, Merry Xmas! LOL!
    Xoxoxo

apparently there is a new trend to send by mail cards, especially when you aren’t sending/giving a gift – as it makes the recipient at least feel you care…

I’ve had none at this point, not even the Post Office ones, although they did send a card about having your packages delivered to other smaller service centres; and should I say that I received a compliments slip wishing me Merry Christmas and contained a $50 voucher from a larger discount food store – from my landlord (via the property managers)…

that voucher was a surprise as I’ve only lived here 3mths!!!
