No Plowing

Andy didn’t have to plow yesterday. Instead he huffed and puffed as he broke a trail down to the orchard and to Beate and Tim’s.

When he got to the orchard he had to dig out the gate so he could open it. The snow was as high as the hardware cloth protecting some of the trees — 18″ above the ground — so mice could easily girdle and kill the trees. He cleared the snow away to prevent that from happening, and he will make the hardware cloth higher next summer.

This is the most snow we’ve had in years!

Interesting. The trees that will survive this winter will be strong and survive to full growth one hopes.

  2. That’s one way to stay in shape!

That is certainly “snowly” looking – wow…

I always wonder what in the world the wildlife who eat grass and plants do to survive in such winter snows. and yet they do. year after year.
it’s so beautiful. and yet so daunting for them at least.

It’s a rough life. Andy did see some places in front of the house where deer?/elk? pawed the snow to get some grass underneath. The interesting thing is when we drove up at night last winter to see the Christmas tree, we saw gazillions of rabbits. But not this year.

I think Andy needs a snow mobile.

I think you got your snow and ours, too. We can see grass through the snow here in the western suburbs of Minneapolis.
