Wind

We get a lot of wind in March, especially up on the land. But so far it hasn’t sent us flying.

This The Guardian article has a video showing why an international bike race in South Africa was canceled because of the wind.

Up on the land, of course, the winds mostly topple trees. Recently one fallen tree almost clobbered two of Andy’s young evergreens.

A near miss:

One year, we had 7 large pines toppled all at once by high winds. We have several trees close to the house that we need removed — I am still capable of cutting down trees, but I have had enough not drop where I want them that we need professionals for these. Karen worries about them whenever there’s ice predicted or severe storms, so we need to have them taken care of soon.

So far as the ultimate in high winds, tornado, we have a shelter for that and have gone there several times, but, in each case, the tornado either never touched down or went to one side or the other of us.

I am told that it is very normal to have problems with wind when one is a senior citizen!

No problems personally, but a few people having narrow escapes from toppling trees. A few cars wrecked in the process.

By the way, I’m having a lot of difficulty accessing your blog at the moment. Maybe some kind of server problem?

I haven’t had any problems with my blog recently, so I don’t know. Thanks for the warning.

Last year a woman at a local national monument was killed when a tree fell on her. A freak accident there, but in the burned area from the big fire there are still signs warning people about falling trees.

having just had Tasman Tempest stroll in and wreck havoc around here…it was wind that was accompanied by rain +++ it didn’t let up for a couple of hours on that day – but it was blowing from a different direction than the day befores lot…

I stayed home, waited for it to abate so I could take a look at my shed…we now have new leak holes (well they may have been there…because I noted quite a few things inside on the roofline during my dry-outs, this week)
