Quantum Entanglement

Recently, a team of Chinese scientists pulled off quantum teleportation from Earth to space. And a related team of Chinese scientists achieved quantum entanglement over the longest distance ever measured. China’s quantum scientists are blowing their competition out of the water, establishing their position at the forefront of the field and cementing their lead in the global race to invent the quantum internet.
Part of the reason for their epic lead is because they’ve got a one-of-a-kind quantum satellite called Micius.

China uses Micius to explore the basic science necessary to build the “quantum internet” — a hyper-secure, superfast network, operating with the aid of the spookiest quantum mechanics, that could one day supplant or augment our current world wide web.
With New Satellite China Leads the World in Quantum Entanglement

A Washington Post mention of the subject made me laugh,

In news that I barely understand, Chinese scientists have “teleported” a photon from the ground to a satellite orbiting hundreds of miles above in outer space. They used a process called “quantum entanglement,” which I can’t even begin to explain to you, but it sounds very much like science fiction. See this summary in MIT’s Technological Review for more details, or consult an episode of Star Trek.

I’m with that fellow, but for me the most important thing about this is China doesn’t share Trump’s aversion to science, and their investment will pay off handsomely for them in the future.

I agree with Chris Uhlmann, an Australian journalist who recently wrote,

Donald Trump has pressed fast forward on the decline of the United States as a global leader.

Sigh. 🙁

the last sentence in your post is not an alternate fact.
    it IS a FACT.
we only think we’re a super power. those days will soon be over.
he’s only expediting it. we are now outranked in so many ways.
and really… maybe it would be much more relaxing to not be a super power.
look at Great Britain. it was once the most powerful country in the world.
‘the sun never set on the British Empire.” how relieved they must be now!

Every government on Earth has had a rise and fall cycle. Why are we so surprised to be in decline?

interesting interlude and of course the comments…the super powers have taken a battering only since, they allowed the telecommunications broader access – i.e. now we can’t colonise somewhere, because they places have “opened” up and are rearing and racing to the top…i.e. Asia et al

The U.S. couldn’t remain top dog forever, but it is sad that the anti-science policy will speed the decline. One of the big lessons from WW II was that England survived because it had radar — investment in science was crucial.
