Computer Backups

I automatically back up my computer using Apple Time Capsule, but a couple of times the backup became corrupted and I lost everything and had to start from scratch. So from time to time I back up to other external hard drives. I’ve only been doing that every month or so, but probably should do it more often because of my photos.

I used to back up my posts from time to time, but now I pay $5 a month to have Sucuri do it for me. Since I post every day, it’s well worth it for my peace of mind.

How often, if at all, do you back up your data?

I have both weekly (prompted by the Sunday comics) and monthly backups but I have become sloppy about doing them. One of my weekly backups is onto a flash drive that lives in my pocket so it’s always with me just in case something happens when I’m not home. One of them is to the cloud so I probably don’t need the flash drive any more but I somehow feel more secure knowing I have it.

We don’t use the cloud, but that’s a good idea, and I like the one about keeping a flash drive backup with you. We put copies of our pictures up on the land, but I update those only about every six months.

occasionally I do that – usually onto a flash drive – but really like most things in my life, if I lost it “so be it…”

For us it’s about our gazillion pictures. The latest ones I could resurrect from our cameras, but I would have to relabel them and put in the keywords for searching them again.

I haven’t actually used my computer for months.
    Months and months.
    Maybe a year?
    (I just use my phone)
    I haven’t backed up the blog… forever!
    Maybe I’ll do that tomorrow

I used to back up my blog from time to time, but it took a long time, and then I started having problems doing it myself at my hosting service, plus I had the problem of storing the backups. I’ve been doing it for about ten years now, so the files were getting long.

I haven’t a clue. The resident Tech Support does it all for me. I have not lost anything so far.

I don’t back up everything, but anything that’s important to me I also have on a memory stick. I used to keep copies of my blog posts but I don’t bother any more since they never disappear. Even if they did, I wouldn’t be bothered because there are plenty more where they came from!
