I was born to have a husband & kids, take care of them & keep them happy. I could have done a better job, but they all still love me.

I don’t believe that. It seems to me you did a lot to create a better life for yourself and your family. Yes, you didn’t have complete control but you worked hard and took advantage of the opportunities that presented themselves. Don’t you agree?

I guess what I intended to say was that I was not born to do anything particular. Yes, I did take advantage of opportunities and made some good choices. I guess what I’m saying is that I believe that we are the ones that, through our aspirations, work, choices and attitudes, determine what it is that we are to do with our lives.

“Born to do” is just a metaphor for our values, what our lives are about. That’s going to be influenced by our personalities and life experiences. I used the term because the cartoon tickles me.

Evan, Please do not take offense. I shall paraphrase you and say, “I was born to shed weight.” No matter what I do, I do not seem to be able to achieve that one goal.
Jean, for the past ten years, it appears that I have been sent here for the sole purpose of being able to serve others. Some times, it is overwhelming but at most other times, very satisfying.
