Loyalty

keebler

I was going to write about how dealing with always-changing software keeps us from getting into ruts — it teaches us to be more flexible. But then I remembered one of our family rituals. From time to time at the grocery store we go down the cookie aisle looking for Keebler French Vanilla Cremes. Keebler discontinued the line years ago, but that doesn’t stop us. Crazy? Maybe not. It’s a fun little ritual and a family joke.

Kaitlin pointed out we’re not the only fans. A number of people on the internet have mourned the loss. For instance, Judy at Cranberry Morning:

Keebler French Vanilla Creme Cookies, the kind made by elves, was my all-time favorite cookie! Where are they?? It seems that they’ve not been around since the ’70s??? I can’t even find a photo of the package, even though I did a Google image search! Evidently no one out there is saving an unopened package for a future episode of Antiques Roadshow.

Is there anyone else who remembers Keebler French Vanilla Creme Cookies? Anyone else who still misses them? Anyone who knows why on earth Keebler would take them off the market?

I answered her question with this comment:

Yes! We’re fans too. We actually had three packages we were saving, but they burned in a forest fire in 2011. It’s sad to think they may have been the last of their kind.

What about you? Do you have any crazy ways of having fun?

No, I racked my brain to find something comparable but could not find one single crazy thing that I do to have fun. Everything I do for fun is crazy!

    Hi Jean,

Well, in Portugal we had a similar situation with an ice cream called: “Fizz Limão” (Lemon Fizz). It was so delicious and refreshing. One day, in the late-90’s I believe they stopped producing it and everybody of my generation was like “What!?”…three years ago, a comedian (from the Fizz generation) started a campaign to bring the product back – songs were written and sang lol – and they actually succeeded: Fizz is back to the market.

The only crazy way of having fun I have is to dance until I drop lol.
It is great to see that all is well with you, Jean :D.

    Cheers

The crazy & WONDERFUL thing about computers is that we get to meet & hear stories from people from all over the world—like YOU. 😀

      Max,
What a great story. 🙂 Apparently Keebler temporarily brought out cookies with the same shape and name under a line called the Classic Collection, but the quality wasn’t the same. Life is just one tragedy after another.

I don’t dance much, but I bounce on my jogging trampoline when I’m at the computer. It lifts my spirits the same way dancing does.

      Thanks for coming by.

Try these for size. Peanut chutney with gouda cheese sandwich. Black espresso coffee with cardamom and grated fresh ginger.
