Still Trying

The new records did come yesterday, in good shape. They were described as three 45 rpm records, and I had assumed that was a misprint. It wasn’t.

45’s have bigger holes in the center than 78’s or LP’s, so I had to order an adapter for the turntable. With any luck it will come today so we can play the records. And with any luck the records will include the missing pieces.

We were amused that the Decca label in the upper right hand corner proclaimed them unbreakable. It was understandably a selling point when vinyl records first came out.

I sure am learning a lot from this little project! It does go on and on.

Apart from their breakability, what I remember about the old shellac records is how easily the grooves got damaged and the needle would get stuck in a groove and have to be physically moved on. And the phrase “stuck in a groove” lives on to this day!

I love information like that. Thanks!

Andy never mentioned that. He did mention that when vinyl first came out people could sometimes see the vinyl being shaved off by the old steel needles.

I’m assuming my four Beatles 78 rpm records won’t be good for playing, if I still have something to play then on.

    LOL.
reminds me of kim at ‘golden pines’ blog … on the way to the vet stopping at macdonald’s. they got her simple order wrong. she didn’t have time to waste. went on anyway. on way back got another for the dog… they got it wrong. this time she looked in the sack. they apologized. gave her the “correct” order. this time she didn’t look in the sack. got home. looked at it. WRONG.
    GOOD GRIEF CHARLIE BROWN.
is it just me? or has the whole world gone lacksadaisical about accuracy in orders!
it’s telling me i spelled lacksadaisical wrong. it’s an old fashioned word.
i’m too lacksadaisical to look it up. LOLOL.

It wasn’t the people who sent the 45’s that were wrong, it was me. When I read the history of the records they didn’t mention that any 45’s of it had been produced, so I assumed it was a misprint. I’m happy I was wrong.

a great project to keep you amused at home during the winter period, when it probably more difficult to get to the cottage so regularly…

Andy goes up every day. We’ve had days and days of sunny weather. We’ve been enjoying it, but we’ll be back into drought conditions if we don’t get some precipitation.
