More Winter

We’re having winter again for a few days, but it should turn nice again by the weekend.

Andy has burned about half of his wood so far — presumably he has enough left to last until spring.

Kaitlin and Torben, of course, are getting a lot more snow and cold than we are:

Normal for this time of the year. Cold in the nights and warm in the days. On some days, humidity goes up too. I am off to a farm house tomorrow morning for the week end and there it will be colder and cleaner too.

Tuesday, we lost power from an ice storm and were out of power for a couple of hours. We were fortunate to get it back so soon. There are still many people in this area who haven’t and last night was brutally cold for this area. Right now it’s 12.7°F (-10.7°C). Nothing close to normal temperatures predicted for the next week or so.

Have a great time, Ramana! I’m sure you will.

      Mike,
We could be in trouble if the power goes out for too long. Our furnace is gas, but it needs electricity to run the fan. We do have a lot of down comforters, I’m glad you’re so prepared.

as i write this it’s 10 degrees here. but at least the wind is not blowing. even the little birds are no where to be found. i hope they’re warm wherever they’ve hidden themselves.
it’s to get up to 20 for a high today. and we had snow last night! winter is definitely here!
i love the picture of kaitlin and torben’s back yard. except for the puppies… so hard to do your business when the snow is cold and reaches right up to your belly!!!

    • Jean says:

Yes, the snow is deep for them especially little Montana. And they can’t go for walks when the temperature is below 0 degrees — it hurts their feet.

The scenes on TV of winter all over the U.S. are frightful. The roads here are OK, but I’m planning on hunkering down & staying home.

Having a nice patch at the moment.

Not unpleasantly hot like it has been. Warm and with nice breezes usually where we are, near the coast.

    • Jean says:

I’m happy about your weather and that you can live so close to the coast. I was raised in California, and I remember the coast with great fondness.

Our long sunny and hot periods have disappeared…it’s so WINDY but it’s not cold…but I don’t think we have more than a few specks of rain.

Am having basically a rest day because I have a whole load of events to attend in the weekend, and need to have enough stamina for all of them.

I did go out for a walk, because I needed to see if Specsavers would fix my computer specs! They did, free of charge as well…one day they are going to break up for sure…but for now they are straight as a die on my nose!

My regular specs do not have the 3 way gradual “thing” in them – hence the need for the computer specs…

    • Jean says:

That’s great that they’ll fix your glasses for free. My computer glasses are mostly computer/reading bifocals. I have a separate pair for distance and don’t wear them around the apartment, just for driving.

I hope you enjoy your weekend!

Even up here in mild winter Washington we’re having Extreme Cold, sometimes even getting below 20 degrees at night. At this time of year, the usual is in the upper 30s or so. Thank goodness all this cold weather is cooling down all that climate warming stuff fanatics tell us about.
