Sacrilege?

sacrilege– violation or misuse of what is regarded as sacred.

Do you think the term applies to these gadgets?

I wouldn’t feel comfortable buying one of these products but according to some of the reviews I read, some devout Christians aren’t offended and think they’re funny.

Some people’s sense of humour can be in very poor taste for me and these fall clearly in that category.

Puts a whole new spin on “good enough to eat”.

It’s not even funny, barely qualifies as a gimmick. It’s just plain stupid. How do those depictions on my piece of toast enhance the pleasure of biting into it?

Jean, insert sigh, as if I weren’t in enough despair with some of the ways of the world now you have drawn my attention to this nonsense. I’ll try my hardest to forget it asap and “move on”.

Well, they’re ugly and also make me ruminate again about the “sacred”. Your sacred can be my heresy, or my ridicule, my disgust, my fear. Big emotions, social, traditional, individual on one side or the other… it all seems so remote to me. Now if you showed me a toasted with “hooray for Citizens United” on it, that would hit me. Fodder for some delightful rants.

    • Jean says:

You would have to get rid of the “Hooray for”, but maybe you could use the selfie toaster to read Citizens United. I don’t like burned toast, so the toasters wouldn’t appeal to me no matter what they said.

    i dislike gimmickry things.
this smacks to me of “in your face” somehow.
or maybe it’s misguided adulation. who knows? but i rather think more …
    it’s ‘anything to make money.’
just give me simple toast. with butter. and marmalade please.
    simple!

Well, whatever turns you on. But I’m quite happy with my regular lightly-browned toast. No added portraiture required.

  6. Evan says:

I’m in the ‘think they’re funny camp’.

Taking religion seriously can lead to funny things. When before a magistrate with several others I was the only one who chose the affirmation rather than swearing by god – the (secular) others thought this weird.
