Polo Shirts and Khakis

On the subject of clothing styles — some people might have disapproved when three Americans wore polo shirts and khakis (see picture) when they received the French Legion of Honor. But not the Washington Post Style Blog: Polo shirts and khakis were just the right thing for three U.S. heroes to wear in Paris:

It is rare when a polo shirt and a pair of khakis make such a graceful statement about style. But as worn by the three young American men who foiled an alleged terrorist attack, the informal uniform of vacationers and Friday businessmen never looked more elegant.

It makes me proud to be an American.

I agree. They did not wear suits when they overpowered the gunman.

They look like American heroes to me.
Clean, pressed, and classic, and they remembered to wear belts. 🙂
I sometimes think that the rest of the world thinks Americans just wear “beer” T-shirts, baggy sweatpants and flip flops.
They look young, strong and brave… Like people used to think of us.
    They made us proud!

  3. Well said. Thanks for posting.

I think the attire is very appropriate. It’d be different if they were given a lot of advance notice for a special ceremony in their honor. This, on the other hand, was almost a spontaneous celebration of remarkable heroism during troubling times.

Polo shirts and khaki would be “dress-up” attire for me on vacation. It’s my normal attire on Monday to Thursday at work. Friday attire is t-shirt and jeans or cargo pants.
