Backhoe

Andy, Orlando, and Larry used the backhoe yesterday to work on the road down from the fire station.

First they removed an old culvert that was plugged up and was causing a bump in the road because the road had eroded around it. The entrance to the culvert was above the road and the exit was completely buried, so even if it had been cleaned out it couldn’t have done any good.

The rest of the time was spent on routine maintenance, digging out the basins in front of each culvert. The basins catch the soil and rocks that wash down the hillside. Once the basins are filled, any new soil and rocks will plug the culverts.

If all goes well, today they will clean out the basins on our part of the road and install a new culvert there. If there is time left over, they’ll do some work on the road behind the brown gate.
