Time Change

Daylight Savings Time went off here at 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Andy and I never have problems with the changes — most of our clocks correct themselves automatically. But pets don’t use clocks to tell time, and some of them have trouble adjusting at first. In particular the six Siberian huskies at The Thundering Herd were upset. Not only did Hu-Dad sleep in an extra hour, their breakfasts and dinners were an hour late. Needless to say, they let him know of their displeasure.

Do you (if you have Daylight Savings Time) ever have problems when it switches on and off?

Hi, I came here from Tammy’s blog – because I love your handle …I don’t have time to look around but I’ll be back. I love Huskies – our son has had a few.

We have around 14 manual clocks and watches to adjust whenever the time goes backwards or forwards. It drives me round the bend. Why the time has to keep changing at all I don’t know. The only clocks that change automatically are the ones on our computers and iPad.

Most of our clocks are “atomic”:

What are atomic clocks? They are radio controlled clocks that tune into a short-wave radio signal emitted by the U.S. atomic clock located in Boulder, Colorado (this clock keeps what is considered the official US time). They reset themselves multiple times every day to the exact hour, minute, second and date and automatically change themselves for Daylight Savings Time. They are always accurate to the second and are very easy to use.

No problem with Daylight Savings Time or gaining or losing minutes. We love them because they save a lot of time and confusion.

i wish they would leave it alone and let nature be.
i have only one clock in the house and it’s on my microwave! so changing it is easy.
but when i worked and had my little cocker and we had a very set routine… out of necessity… it through her totally out of kilter. animals don’t like it.

      i need an editor i guess. 🙂
makes you wonder how anyone ever learns english.

I didn’t even notice the misspelling. I would make a horrible editor. 🙂

I will check out Sandy’s blog, and Kaitlin said Sammy had trouble with the time change. He was ready for his walk at the old time, and people were messing with something sacred to him. Beate says her cat started bouncing on their bed at the old wake up time Sunday morning. They put her out and went back to sleep for an hour. Poor pets!

Atomic clocks would be good, but then we’d have to buy 14 new clocks and watches and throw out all the existing ones! Can’t afford to do that. But I see that my recently-bought car, 18 months old, changes the time automatically.

Thankfully, we do not have to set our time for daylight saving! I can understand the angst of the dogs!

  6. Cathy in NZ says:

we changed about a month ago – I think I wrote about it – I had to be in the city by 8am the morning it started and of course here we are in Spring Forward as it’s summer time – so I called one of my friends the night before and said “what should I do?” and the sensible man said “put clocks forward NOW” and I did…and it worked!!!

This is the first year I have had trouble with the end of day stuff, it seems like such a strange time to eat dinner, “early” when the sun is still beckoning me to do other things! Feels all wrong…but if I leave it too long, it’s then “too late”!!!!!

    • Jean says:

We usually don’t have much trouble adjusting, but when I’m by myself I sometimes get involved and forget to eat when I should.
