I’m in Love!

I’m in love! With New Mexico. I hadn’t realized it until I started watching Longmire on Netflix. It’s a TV series about a sheriff in Wyoming, but it was filmed in New Mexico.

At first the scenery looked like eastern Wyoming, with the dry grasslands and the pronghorns leaping, but then it was was more like New Mexico with rocks and trees. Once they showed the sheriff’s cabin, there was no doubt. It was located on the edge of the Valle Grande, the valley we see on our usual way up to the land.

Here’s a picture Andy took of the Valle on one of his walks:

The story itself is a bit dark in spots, but I watched all four seasons and will watch the fifth one as soon as it’s released. And I’ll do it not just for the story and characters, but even more for the scenery. It warms my heart and makes me happy.

Have you ever had an unusual response to a book, movie, or TV series?

Anything set in Australia gives me a nostalgic pang, as I love Australia (I’ve been there three times). Any TV series that’s a bit sordid or gruesome leaves me with a bit of a nasty taste (Breaking Bad was hard to watch in places). And I was pretty haunted by Stepford Wives when I first saw it. It’s really creepy and sinister!

So far I’ve avoided Breaking Bad and the Stepford Wives. I like friendlier programs. There was one series about a bunch of gals on a ranch in Australia that I loved — McCloud’s Daughters. Yes, the background adds a lot.

I couldn’t remember the name, so I Googled “australia women ranch tv program”. Google had no problem finding it.

    Oh! I love this post!
Now I will have to rent this series and watch it.
    I sometimes do marathon weekends.
I’ll binge watch a whole season or two.
And sometimes I get so sad that it’s over…
Now I’m trying to think of what movie made me wish I lived there.
    Hmm.
    OK,
“You’ve got Mail” (New York City)
    “Return to Me” (Chicago burb)
    “French Kiss” (French country-side)
    “A Good Year” (French country-side)
    whoa! that’s kinda eye-opening.
Although there are many shows I loved but did NOT want to live there!
    LOL!

Lucky you to be living there.

I have seen one Hindi film Guide seven times if that counts!

That’s why we watch Better Call Saul. It takes place & is filmed in Albuquerque & Santa Fe—besides being funny & fascinating.

We watch Grimm (fun). It takes place & is filmed in Portland Oregon where our son Kendall lives.

    • bikehikebabe says:

Also Better Call Saul is filmed on the land AROUND Albuquerque & Santa Fe. Fun to see places on TV that we know.

i’ve always loved the name of your state…
‘land of enchantmentI first saw its remarkable beauty through the eyes of georgia o’keeffe
every film i’ve ever seen set anywhere in england makes me long for it.
i think it’s simply in my DNA. can’t explain it otherwise.

    • Jean says:

I love “The Land of Enchantment” too. It warms my heart.

I like films placed in the English countryside too. I also have a warm spot in my heart for the Scottish and Irish countrysides too.

Pam & I used to ski tour on the edge of the Valle Grande (See Jean’s pic. of Valle where Andy hikes.) Back then Pam & I heard you’d get shot at if caught there (unlikely). So we skied on the edge in the trees & I wore my (snow) white ski suit just to be safe.

Also we skied the 26 mi. across the Valle to the hot springs with the Browns & Liska’s. Jean knows them.

  7. This is not he first time I’ve heard about how beautiful New Mexico is — I’d love to see it myself someday! As far as a reaction to a place where a movie was filmed, for me, hands down is “Fried Green Tomatoes.” We were living in Alaska at the time, and the setting of the movie truly reminded me of my southern roots, and I knew I had to “come back home” because it was where I belonged.

Me too. I love love New Mexico..

I don’t what resonates me with – maybe some series where you are outdoors alot – which shows what “the/wherever” scenery is like. I quite like series that show streets and shops – you start to “feel you are there”

watching the 3D “life of Pi” was quite scary, I kept thinking the tiger was going to jump into my lap!

many of the historic sets are interesting – particularly clothing…
